Can't afford like $8 a pack man and I get through 180 a day. You guys ever given up man? Any advice man?

Not me, unfortunately.
I'm struggling with my own addiction at the moment (to the net aka Lit.), and it's not working either. :(

I was told however that traditional methods (cutting off or going cold turkey) are nice on paper, but in practice they backfire if used just by themselves.
And that one needs to add to the mix the act of "gradually replacing one negative addiction with a positive one (like sports and so on)."

haha I just noticed his username so the other poster's pun finally sank in.:D

Staying off can be harder than quitting. It can be tough for first week or two. But that just shows you the grip the killer sticks have on you. After two weeks your breathing and endurance will be 3X what you have now.

Switch to strong black coffee as a source of an upper. You'll be accustomed to black coffee about the time the craving for smokes goes. If your tough and/or stubborn. Go cold turkey, prove your not an addict like a coke head.

The patch works. Just don't start out to weak. Get the strong ones to start. Nicorette Quickmist works well. Fast results first thing in morn, if smoke when you wake important.

Best thing you can do for yourself. Health, money, smell! In two weeks someone who just had a smoke will reek. A girl who is a 10 will go to a 7 with one whiff. I guarantee. The things smell real fucking bad. Don't notice as a smoker but you will after a couple of weeks. Especially if you don't live with other smokers.

I've never heard of anyone smoking that many cigarettes/day, so I'm not sure if you are serious. If you are, the American Lung Association has a really successful smoking cessation program. It's available either in person, or virtually.

Here's the link to the online program: http://www.ffsonline.org

Good luck.

The first step to quitting cigarettes is to quit buying cigarettes.

I have a friend who stopped by taking Chantix. He said it dulled his appetite for everything. He lost weight because he also quit eating as much.

It took 2 months, but when he finished the last prescription, he didn't want to smoke.

Oh, and another useful one is: To change your routines and to tell your friends who are smokers that you might have to cut off contact until you get on track.
Because any reminder would bring back the cravings.

I did the same when I wanted to lose a couple of pounds.
I changed my route to and from work (I used to pass by a 24 hours food shop and a bakery), and I also avoided having lunch with my colleagues, for a short while. I also made a habit of surfing the net or making a brief call , during a 'break' slot, when the cravings where more likely to hit me. Or when I was tired or in a bad mood (thus more likely to comfort-eat)
It worked.

Yea don't be a bitch....put the shit down and be bigger than the cigg. It's the only way.

I've been cigg/tobacco free for 3 years and 5 months now and I'll NEVER touch the shit again.

I was in hospital for major surgery, which gave me a head start. Never lit up again (so far at least...five years plus.)

My two-pack-a-day mother said for years that she would quit the day she retired from work.

And she did. That was 15 years ago.

To this day, I don't know how she managed to do that.

I quit 16 years ago and haven't smoked anything since. Was a 2 pack a day smoker and went on the nicaderm patch. Worked for me and the bonus was the patch gave me the wildest sex dreams I have ever had.

She pulled her big girl panties up and toughed it out like a fuckin' champ that's how....
