What's on television? Have you watched a good TV series or movie lately?

Ever since I can remember, I've watched a lot of television. Growing up in a single parent home that quickly turned into an absentee parent home, the television was my babysitter and entertainment. Suffice to say that when not writing I watch a lot of TV.

I watch a lot of House Hunter. I prefer that to House Hunter international. It's fun to watch how people react to one another. Some couples I really like and others I don't.

I just finished watching Fargo, the TV series and I just started watching Luther. It's interesting but violent. I don't mind the violence as much as I don't like the torture. Ruth Wilson who plays Alice Morgan steals the show. There's something about her character that makes you stare at her on the screen. She also stars in The Affair.

I recently finished watching Ray Donovan. That was good and some of it is shot in South Boston and Justified with Timothy Olyphant is over. Hell on Wheels was pretty good too.

Blacklist is one of my favorites. Only, I can't help but think of James Spader when he played Mr. Grey opposite Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Secretary. Now, that was a hot movie (lol).

"Lift your skirt up past your hips and pull down your panties. Now put your elbows on the desk and lean forward."

I rarely watch a movie again but I watched that movie a few times. My other favorite movie is the Professional, Natalie Portman's first movie. The movie is about an Italian hit man played by Jean Reno (a Frenchman). Gary Oldman gives an unbelievable performance a doped up DEA agent.

Of course there's Godfather 1 & 2 and the Soprano's, but the best series that I ever saw on television was Deadwood. I loved that show. Everyone was a cocksucker in that series.

Schindler's List, Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting (obviously with the Boston connection, Cambridge actually), Heat, Casino, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and The Graduate are movies that I'd watch again.

What about you? Do you have any favorite movies or TV series?

Being that we're all readers and the majority of the AH members are writers, every time I watch a movie or a TV series, I think about the writer(s) writing it.

In the way that song writers don't receive the fame, fortune, and idolization of the singers, writers don't receive the fame, fortune, and idolization that the actors and actresses receive. We writers are an anonymous bunch. Yeah sure, they'll receive the best Emmy or Oscar for the best screenplay or adaptation to the big screen by writers are an anonymous bunch.

Unless you're Steven King or JK Rowling, no one knows who the Hell you are. Seriously, how many times have you seen a group of Paparazzi waiting out front of a restaurant to photograph a lowly writer no matter what he or she wrote? Can you see a writer standing on the red carpet of the Oscars?

"Who are you wearing tonight Susan?"

Susan looked at the reporter confused.

"Who am I wearing? I'm wearing my clothes. These are my clothes."

"No, I mean, who was your designer."

"My designer? Oh, you mean who designed my clothes?" Susan looked down at her big breasts pushing out her Champion logo. "I'm wearing Champion. I'm wearing my sweats. I figured that I wouldn't win the Oscar so why bother dressing? Sorry about the big stain in front. I was writing before coming here and spilled some coffee."

The reporter looked embarrassed for her.

"I noticed you didn't pull up in a limo," said the Entertainment Tonight reporter.

Susan made a face.

"A limo? No, I took my bike," said Susan. "Much like Sean Connery playing William Forrester in Finding Forrester, I'm never without my bike."

The truth of the matter is that there wouldn't be any best selling books, great movies, anything on TV, or any Oscar winning performances if it wasn't for we writers.

"I want every writer in the AH hangout room to stand. Let's give all of us a big round of applause."

Latest TV shows to watch...

Code Black - Wednesdays nights 9:00pm ct. Very good writing/acting. Great characters and you should really watch it from the beginning.

Madam Secretary - Sunday nights 7:00pm ct. Again, good writing and acting. Characters are very good. So much intrigue you might need to catch up with watching season 1 first.

CSI Cyber - Sunday nights 9:00pm ct. It made it to a second season. I thought it wouldn't. First season was boarder line. Second Season they added Ted Danson, lost Peter McNicol. Not to bad if you like high tech computer speak.

Then there are the old standards -

NCIS in it's 13th season
NCIS New Orleans in it's 2nd season
Elementary in it's 4th season
Bones in it's 11th season
Person of Interest 5th season coming up in Jan.

And the only two comedies that make my list -

The Big Bang Theory in it's 9th season
Last Man Standing in it's 5th season

And never ever forget - Doctor Who Saturday nights 9:00pm on BBC America.

Of course, how could I forget two of my favorite programs, Top Gear and Big Bang.

Thank you for your post.

Just curious. Does anyone have Amazon TV?

I highly recommend it, especially when in combination with Netflix streaming and a couple of premium movie channels. I literally get thousands of shows for free.

Rumor has it that Amazon and Apple will soon put cable TV out of business.

"Yeah!"

I am really into "Into The Badlands" on AMC. Love the fighting sequences.

Thank you for pointing out my duplicate thread but much as changed in 2 years. Moreover Slyc Willie is no longer here to add to his post, may God rest his soul.

Yes but I have been adding to it...

It never ceases to amaze me that comprehension is now a lost art.

I recently finished Blacklist. Great season. Fantastic thriller.

The new Homeland is solid.

I just started Fargo season 2. Never saw the first season. Each season is a standalone. Looks good so far, but I'm blow away by the fact that it claims to be true, but it's not.

I also need to plug Flesh & Bone to Lit readers. It's on Starz, just one season. It's new. To me, it's the perfect erotic show in many ways (even though erotic stuff is only a small part, it's a drama). But the set-up is perfect for erotica. I highly recommend it.

Season 1 of Fargo is a must see. Season 1 is waaaaaaaaaaay better than season 2. Why? Billy Bob Thornton. Oh, my God. He walked away with the whole show. He was the Devil.

Is anyone else watching American Horror Story? I've watched them all. I particularly like Lily Rabb. She played the nun.

Lady Gaga has outdone herself playing the Countess. I have new admiration for her. Not only is she a great singer and a talented entertainer but she can act too.

I watched American Horror Story, Hotel last night. Now I'm dying to know what happened to Lady Gaga when Kathy Bates and Liz Taylor shoot four blazing guns at her.

Has anyone watched The Wire?

That was a wicked good series. The writing was good. I bonded with nearly all of the characters, even the drug dealers.

There was believable action from the start to the beginning. Then, when they moved from the project to the docks to show what happens to cargo that's stolen for the Russian mob, that was an eye opener.

Great TV series. I highly recommend it.

Dominic West who play Det. Sgt. McNulty now stars in The Affair with Ruth Wilson as Alison Bailey. She also stars in Luther as Alice Morgan. She's a great and believable actress.

Has anyone seen Jessica Jones?

That was a great TV series. She plays a private eye but she has super powers. She's able to lift a car one handed.

She teams up with a man who has super powers too. His skin is like iron. He can't be hurt by fists, guns, or fire.

It sounds stupid on the surface but it's well done.

I recommend watching it.

Has anyone watched Gotham? I'm thinking about watching that tonight.

Basically, it's the backstory of Batman from the beginning.

Loved It

Loved The Wire, came to it late so binged on the whole show. Currently hooked on The Affair. Also The Knicks, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and House of Cards.

Game of Thrones is, of course, one of my very favorites. It's so rich in detail and so full with action.

House of Cards is as if I'm sitting there behind the scenes. It's one of the few shows better than Black List.

I haven't seen the Walking Dead yet but it has great reviews.

I wasn't able to get into the affair. I watched about six episodes before giving up on it. Even though I absolutely love Ruth Wilson and enjoyed Dominic West in the Wire, the story of a cheating husband with young children leaves me flat.

Has anyone seen the movie, The Book Thief?

Different but good.

What about the new Star Wars Episode VII? Has anyone seen that?

I just watched the first episode of Gotham. I liked it. I give it one thumb up. It's a little slow.

I watched two episodes of Lillyhammer. Stephen Van Zandt from the Sopranos stars in that.

He plays, what else, a mobster hiding out in Norway. He's in the Witness Protection Program.

I'm really loving this Amazon TV.

"Alexa. What's the weather."

"In Hershey it's 33 degrees, tonight..."

Well, today is the day. Today is a very special day. Today is football.

"Are you ready for some football?"

Today the New England Patriots yet play another inferior team. Yawn. I don't know how the New England Patriots don't fall asleep on the field (lol).

Today Sir Tom Brady, Tom Terrific, the best quarterback in the history of quarterbacks, move one game closer to yet another Super Bowl.

"Oh, my God! How many Super Bowls is that?"

Well, they won three and should have won four, possibly even five but for the poor officiating. I think that's the their sixth Super Bowl. They've won 10 divisional championships. Wow! The New England Patriots are a dynastic in the way that the Pittsburgh Steelers were with Terry Bradshaw, the New York Yankees were in the sixties, and the Boston Celtics were under Red Auerbach in the sixties.

Nonetheless, Sir Tom has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he doesn't need to deflate footballs to win football games. Wasn't that ridiculous.

Sir Tom doesn't cheat. Sir Tom doesn't lie. Sir Tom is a hero. Sir Tom is a saint. Sir Tom is a living legend and living with his beautiful wife Gisele. Sir Tom is so good that he doesn't need anyone else to win a game. If he had to, he could throw a football down the field, run, and catch it him damn self.

"Yeah! How do you like those apples," said Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting.
