Fact check: Most Republican presidential candidates flunk climate science

At he request of the Associated Press, eight climate and biological scientists graded for scientific accuracy what a dozen top candidates said in debates, interviews and tweets, using a 0 to 100 scale.

Below Clinton’s 94 were O’Malley with 91; Sanders, 87; Bush, 64; Christie, 54; Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 47; Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, 38; Fiorina, 28; Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, 21; businessman Donald Trump, 15; retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, 13; and Cruz with 6.

GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas had the lowest score, an average of 6. All eight put Cruz at the bottom.

This individual understands less about science [and climate change] than the average kindergartner,” Michael Mann, a Penn State meteorology professor, wrote of Cruz’s statements. “That sort of ignorance would be dangerous in a doorman, let alone a president.”

In August, Cruz told an interviewer, “If you look at satellite data for the last 18 years, there’s been zero warming. … The satellite says it ain’t happening.”

These same Republicans who have argued against climate action by saying the U.S. shouldn’t act alone are now trying to derail every effort that facilitates international action—and it’s not going to work,” continued Coequyt. “This is just another desperate, and ultimately futile attempt to derail action to tackle the climate crisis by extremist Senators who are putting themselves in opposition to religious and moral leaders like Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama, the 164 countries who have submitted climate action plans already, dozens of major U.S. corporations calling for climate action and the will of the clear majority of the American public. The American delegation at the COP21 will be empowered by those voices, not held back by the desperate efforts of the most extreme pro-polluter interests.”

Cruz and other GOP’s, including Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), have repeatedly denied the reality of human-caused climate change. Last winter, Inhofe brought a snowball to the floor as “proof” that global warming is not occurring. He also criticized Pope Francis for speaking out about climate change. Cruz spent an entire Senate hearing badgering Sierra Club President Aaron Mair about the organization’s stance on climate change. And just a few weeks ago, Cruz told Glenn Beck that “climate change is not science, it’s religion.”

There's no way to fact check the Republican candidates, because none of them are stating any actual facts.

They don't even live in reality.

I'm also pretty sure the current crop of teahadists flunked their geography, spelling, and basic addition tests too.

Climate science...new useless buzz words created every day to study what we already know. We don't live in a picture, climate changes, fashion changes, the scratch ticket machine doesn't give change and people don't change.

In the interest of making all our politicians scientists, let's make sure they all take a 40 hour class on our climate. How cow farts impact it as well as how vw got away with making everyone a fool for so long. This not only serves to keep them away from doing their really important job, checking followers on twitter, but guarantees they will see another opportunity to regulate more. After all, as political scientists they have a duty to apply their worthless knowledge to improving our lives. (Head pats all around)

fact...Climate Science has Flunked.... over and over and over.. Guess you didn't read the East Angela University 'papers'...Climax Change is a HOAX..Well not really in the last 10 min. the climate has changed...."Colder"

sadly, she's one of those that thinks by growing welfare we can grow the GDP

I wonder how many Republican politicians actually believe the nonsense they tell on the campaign trail. 60 percent of registered Republicans believe in the literal truth of the Genesis Creation Story. If the Genesis Creation Story is true, the universe is less than 6,000 years old. This means that the light from most of the stars one sees on a cloudless night began moving to earth before the stars existed.

The ignorance of most registered Republicans requires Republican politicians to feign ignorance.

That would actually help their theory Trouv. Light actually predates the sun and stars so the idea that there was light traveling from the moment it existed and then the stars were put in place make no less sense than when a computer programer works backwards on one task or another because he wants to see the finished product.

Illogical if you believe in a natural world? Hell yeah. But fitting with the myth as told? Also hell yeah.

I like the part of the story where God creates trees one day, then figures out that they need sunlight, and creates the sun on the next day.

Bout as many as Democrats who believe Hillarys bullshit.
