What makes someone an authority on what an american is?

Traditional USA-American values: Theft (of land, resources, other people's money, etc), slavery, genocide, rapine, familial abuse, alcoholism, devastation, invasion, etc. USA people who self-identify as 'Americans' are mostly Southern racist rednecks. Go figure.

Odd the original question was "What Makes SOMEONE AN AUTHORITY ON WHAT AN AMERICAN IS!" not what makes one an American. I guess the inability to read more than a few words of a sentence counts towards making someone American since 99% americans answered not one correctly :D

So the americans have retreated, exhausted, after a long day's fight,
and in come the Brits and Canadians, to make fun of the carnage.:D

rednecks.

In reminiscing about my youth I realize I was a redneck country boy. SW Ontario version. I might have to take exception to disparaging redneck remark. I do get a real redneck from being outside all the time. :D LOL JK

We should have the whole family in on the discussion. Aussie, Kiwis, Canucks and collective British Isles should form a committee to decide who is American.

The British countries are the mother countries. America was the oldest who chaffed under parents rule and left home in a huff. Canada is second child, in many ways like mother country, Aussies very much admire Republican oldest brother and New Zealand is mothers quiet daughter country.

Good selection of opinions. From family members. We are part of the Five Eyes. We watch you all the time. We know your deepest darkest secrets. We speak the same language.

Five Eyes sub-committee on what is a real American. Have us vet your whole population.

Canada can chair. I call DIBS!

we have the obama, it only likes to draw lines in the sand with his lipstick. Wonder if obama will get help from Bruce Jenner?

What about all the flaming liburhul rednecks in the Pacific north west? We all call ourselves American too.

Your collective cant even decide their sexes.

Yeah, but you know you wish you were. USA! USA! USA!
:D

Canada has twice defeated invasion by the US, launched defensive attacks against Canadian rebels on American soil and fought off international terrorist attacks from groups based in the US.

No way USA! We have UEL and French country creation myths. No way USA!

Sometimes our collective heads are in danger of falling off from all the tut tut tut headshaking over America's latest whatever!

Quebec Act is one of your "intolerables". No Quebecer would ever join with the US. They have far better chance of staying/becoming a distinct society in Canada.

No way USA!

You guys can't play hockey all that well and suck at curling! Important issues!

Yeah, well, I'll kick your ass in bocce!

Rob Ford?:D

May have single handedly handed Toronto to federal Liberals in last election. Biggest surprise of the election! Ford well known Conservative supporter.

Is now fighting cancer! He's a populous drunken idiot. But best wishes.

Just look at Arlington Cemetery, the Vietnam memorial and the Normandy Cemetery at Pointe Du Hoc.

All those names, all family origins, all colours, all religions but are all American.

I recently saw a survey asking USAnians to describe their ethnic heritage. The largest proportion are German and are concentrated in the upper midwest. Next largest are Irish, mostly around urban areas. Next are Italians, mostly in the northeast but also around San Francisco Bay. Those describing their heritage as American were heavily in the South. I was not stereotyping, merely reporting.

Surprising English is even spoken in 'merca. It would appear they never settled in the US. Strange!

Various Anglish dialects appear here in the states. I saw a projection some years back that by 2050 something like 75% of the world's population will think they speak Anglish -- and 75% of them will not be able to understand each other. Fuck, as a native Angaleno, I have enough trouble dealing with Alabamans, let alone Micks.

As to how one becomes an authority, it's the same in all contentious areas: Spew. Spew some more. And more. Spew enough and you're a source, an authority. It works for Dr Carson and Faux Newz.

I've never played hockey but I like curling.
Actually, I'm a Newfie by birth. Which explains a lot. :D

My father is buried there, it's very moving every time I visit.

BTW, not all are American.
