The whole situation in Syria would never have happened if we hadn't undermined President Assad's government with the CIA organized "spontaneous protests" a few years ago.

Its time we apologize for trying to undermine Assad's government and offer full assistance to him to crush both the so-called "Free Syrian Army" and ISIS.

Even Israel now says it has no theoretical problem with Assad. The US and Europe need to stop undermining Assad and help END THIS TERRIBLE WAR that they unleashed.

The CIA has been on the wrong side of things for ~60 years. Why would anyone listen to the war mongering parts of the CIA and their proxy wars?

Iran, Laos, Cuba, Viet Nam, Honduras, Guatemala, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya and now Syria. If you're wrong that many times and cost that many lives I wonder why they aren't disbanded and an actual intelligence agency developed?

Because he is a totalitarian dictator using a minority controlled army to subjugate the majority population. And has no real oil reserves we care about. Saudis and Gulf states supply our needs for oil so we turn blind eye. Assad has no reason for us to support him but several reasons to see him gone.

If Assad had down quietly before an Arab Spring uprising things would have been better too. If he wasn't a power mad dictator he could have led the attack against ISIS. Penned it against the Shia and Kurd militias and crushed it.

The utter collapse of the Iraqi army gave ISIS it's huge territorial and material gains. Supporting Iraq, arming and training their army did squat.

Our biggest wars: WWI against militarism, WWII against fascism, Cold War (and associated Korea and Vietnam wars) against totalitarian Communism.

We fight these people they are the enemies of the West. We don't or should not support any un-democratic authoritarian states. We should bite the bullet, stop sending arms and aid to Saudi Arabia and tell them to go sell their oil somewhere else.

Then try to undermine their government and effect a change closer to our liking.

I did have to check numbers. I knew we were the biggest seller of oil to you guys. That you don't produce yourself. They still have large reserves. Use American equipment and tech support. Can't let them sell it all to China.

Are also a bulwark against Shia Iran. Saudis stand between Tehran rhetoric and Tel Aviv.

Move to American domestic production and NA/SA oil can set the US up to abandon the Saudis. But we maybe paying them off to not go after Israel with oil sheik funded Sunni fundies.

We support the Saudis for some reason. As forward military bases in region maybe.

Because the Saudis made the Bushes very rich.

We support the Saudi's because of AARAMCO and the Carlyle Group have big investments in SA, GHW protected them in'91 when it looked like Saddam, who we also aided, was going to invade them and fuck up all that easy money.

America will support any dictator that allows us to skim the cream. We are Capitalists in case you hadn't noticed.

Pretty hard to argue with truth like this.

First Kuwaiti War was about Saddam with the world's fourth biggest army annexing Kuwaiti oil. That made him to big in US eyes. Using gas in Iran/Iraq War and supressing Kurds and Shias was not of importance. To big for your britches and needing to shown a lesson.

Yes, that was the cover. The truth was Kuwait is a big client of AARAMCO and Saddam wanted to change the default currency in oil trades to Eruo's rather that Dollars, which would have driven the value of the dollar down and the Euro up.

Always look behind the curtain. The Mainstream media is mostly propaganda.

That Saddam fellow was pretty goddamn bright then. I mean he wanted to change over to the Euro which wouldn't even be invented for another year or so after he made his move and wouldn't become commonly used for nearly a decade after that. I hope we got his Delorean. Or Phone Booth. Or TARDIS. Whatever the fuck he's using.

I'm sure Jack already had some euros he brilliantly had minted knowing they'd be worth something some day and could lend his old chum Saddam. Or he'll say it was something like that--or that he was just joking.

I don't think Saddam thought that globally. Iraq has 5th proven reserves. Kuwaiti has 3rd. He thought he could just muscle in and take what he wanted. Over reached himself. May not have figured on Saudis actually allowing infidel armies onto holy ground. They made a deal with the infidels to get knock him down a notch.

Well perhaps it wasn't euro's but he wanted to change the default currency away from US Dollars. I guess I should have Goggled the reference, me culpa.

If it makes you feel any better I googled the Euro just to make sure I didn't embarass myself and it turns out it's a lot older than I thought. They apparently actually came up with it in '92 not that anybody was using at the time.

It doesn't make me feel any better, but thanks for the effort. Now that I've had time to reflect it may have been in 2003 that Saddam was pushing for the new reserve currency, but still I screwed the pooch.

Now no one on Lit will ever believe me again, what am I to do?

One of these days we'll have fusion energy and all the oil producers will be cheerfully invited to go fuck themselves and wage whatever pissant little wars they want. Burn down Baghdad, Damascus, Riyadh, Teheran, Caracas, Houston? Sure, no problem.

Glad Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa or Fort MacMurray didn't make list.

I long for day of fusion energy. Oh joy, oh bliss. Unlimited pollution free energy!

Then we can put oil and natural gas to better use than burning it in cars and furnaces.

Natural gas is a huge feedstock for chemical companies. Real waste to burn it trying to stay warm in winter.

How about we ban immigration from the middle east, thus denying these terrorists Access to the west, which they all hate so much and so openly, instead i`m being asked to pony up tax dollars to support these people who hate me, my way of life and my countries allies, While a man from New Zealand who was married here, immigrated here was awaiting his forms and his wife died. Now there threatening to deport him, a legal immigrant who has his $10,000 to cover his expenses, is from a civilized society and not a warzone, the real issue here is why is a white guy being denied the same rights as a Syrian War Refugee?

Filthy terrorists! We should be scared of them! Look at them! How can we let such people come here?

Thanks for handling Halen, I don't think I have the heart for it right now.

I doubt fusion will ever happen. That said we know enough about renewables and nuclear power that we could convert relatively quickly if we so chose. We don't because for all their bluster and noise the Middle East is really more obnoxious than a legit threat.

Sure we have some obstacles with nuclear, mostly explaining to Nevada "fuck you, you don't get a say" until we decide we can bury it on Mars or launch it to Venus or some other simply crazy shit. Seriously how often do those rods even wear out?

yeah that's what we need to do is fire it off into space ... how many government rockets blew up in the past 15 months? hum ... better outsource NASA to a real company
