Since I signed on to the GB and did not see a Toubab thread, abetted by three dozen AJ posts, saying that the election of a Republican governor in Louisiana signals that America hates Obama now and forever and that a GOP win in 2016 is essentially a slam dunk, this must mean that David Vitter did NOT win yesterday, correct?

Yr Wonkette reported it somewhat less succinctly:

David Vitter Trashed Like A Soiled Didy In Louisiana Governor’s Race

The David Vitter Era, if there ever was such a thing, is over. The rightwing senator from Louisiana was flushed away like so much doody in the state’s runoff election for Governor Saturday, losing to Democrat John Bel Edwards by a ten-point margin, which for a Democrat in a southern state counts as an all-out landslide.

Following the loss, Vitter announced that he would not be running to retain his Senate seat in 2016.

Vitter also tried to enlist the help of one of those Duck Dynasty guys, who explained in an ad that Louisianans ought to forgive Vitter for his sins, because who among us hasn’t banged a hooker while indulging a diaper fetish? Jesus was very open-minded on that sort of thing, as we all know from his admonition to Luvs your neighbor.

I'm trying not to read too much into this.

I'm of the belief that this election was a referendum on the failed policies of outgoing governor Piyush Jindal.

It's absolutely astonishing how Jindal absolutely wrecked the state of Louisiana's infrastructure....during an oil boom no less!

Jindal's entire term was geared towards him running for president, this was all about Brand Jindal, the people of Lousiana were political props, simply afterthoughts.

Vitter had his own personal baggage, and the people of the state finally said they had had enough.

Pretty much what I think too. I was mostly poking fun at the board wingnuts who told us that a Republican winning a governor's race in a Republican state (Kentucky) was "a canary in a coalmine" with massive implications for 2016, but are suddenly deathly quiet when a Democrat wins in an even more Republican state.

I don't think it's that astonishing. I think it's par for the course. History tells us this, be it a state or the nation led by a Republican.

They ain't said a damn thing about it. :D

Even Vette's stomach would've made a little burgle gurgle at least!
