We skimped on a lot of stuff to have radiant floors when the house was built. Prolly why the master bath is being remodeled right now.

Yep, yep save now pay later. I've never built new unless you count designing everything in our loft that was still an empty factory when I bought it, but I've done rehabs most of my life.

We found a "spot". It didn't have a house. It's nothing fancy, but I can see the sunset, every day of the year (if home). And, if dish washing gets boring, one can always look out at Denali.

I had modest version of a spot like that. No one between me and the river, a view of a minor landmark named steeple rock, a 90 gallon a minute well in about a hundred and sixty acres of land surrounding me that looked rather tempting to lease. it hadn't late 80s single wide in it that I was going to live in while I built something ridiculous by hand.

My dad actually did it. A lot far too small on the hillside overlooking the ocean. build a 5400 square foot structure, did mom has under contract now for two thirds of the cost of construction. when he dealt real estate he used to always go on about people with their custom mistakes and then he goes and builds a doozy of one. None of that matters if you can afford it and you build what you want and what you like.

We gave up our lake views to move here. Well worth it for the munchkins.

I lived on the flatlands for over 40 years. Living on the hill is very nice, but not great for small kids, IMO. A 'hood there there are neighbor kids to play with is nice when kids are small.

That is exactly what we didn't have in our old house. Even though we were in the city, our neighborsaround the lake were either childless or had grown children. I do miss the house, the view and the neighbors, but that is nothing new to me.

I'm quite happy to be in our current location. Yeah, the roads may be crappy a few times a year and studded tires are absolutely required in winter, but it's off the mainstream, the neighbors mind their own business, and the lots are large enough to be fairly private.

It's pretty nice. I prolly don't need to lock the doors, but I got used to needing to do it on the flatlands.
