I was just at the grocery store to get some things for lunch. As I left the store I was passed by a woman who walked out from two of my stories (one in progress).

I swear it was Mindy -- well, almost Mindy. The real woman might be a couple inches taller than Mindy, but she was wearing black, spike-heeled boots that hugged her calves almost to her knees, so it was hard to say for sure. The bright sunlight made her skin seem lily white in contrast to her dark hair, which was a little shorter than Mindy's, but still long enough to frame her face -- and her red, red lips -- in the same way.

If she were wearing a broad-brimmed straw sun hat, a cap-sleeved white dress with big red polka dots -- the skirt swirling around her knees -- and white sandals with a little rise to them then I would know I had gone insane.

I was dumbfounded. I didn't even stop her to ask how Aaron was.

It was a thrill. Has that happened to anyone else?

Not yet, although some of my chracters are inspired by real folks.

You should have talked to her and told her what you've shared with us. I would love to see her reaction, LOL!

Wait until one of your characters reads what you wrote. :D

three years ago my wife told me I had to come to her next toast masters meeting because there was a new member and she swore it was Megan from SWB.

She went on and on so out of curiosity I went and when I met this woman, it was downright spooky, same hair, same strange husky like blue eyes same goth like pale complexion.

Got even stranger as it was her turn to speak about something and she chose addiction. She had serious coke and alcohol issues for years and was a foster child who had been separated from her brother then they were reunited in their later teens.

Beyond eerie, seriously.

write one about me winning the lottery.

i'll split it with you.

oh, and make it a big win, not a tenner or fifty quid!

I keep meeting characters from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

I know one is the Wife of Bath; another is the Miller...

And then there are Shakespeare's characters - Justice Shallow; the rude mechanicals from a Midsummer Night's Dream...

Perhaps the Chaucerian characters are because I live in Kent.

As for my characters?

Where do you think I get them from? None (except jeanne_d_artois's Fag-Ash_Lil) are based on a single real person but on characteristics from a number of people I used to know.

Unfortunately Fag-Ash_Lil, now deceased :rose:, was all too real.

Most of my characters are more-or-less based on actual people. Some look and behave like their models; some don't. I see some of those models almost every day; they're right here. And sometimes I'm out in public and I encounter folks who look precisely as I 'see' certain of my period characters -- or worse yet, they are *me* at that age. Creeps me out.

Has that happened to anyone else?

Yep. Not a protagonist, but I had a fairly developed side character who I invented, then a couple of weeks later I met somebody who was spookily close to him (lawyer, loved cooking, same sense of humour, same first name). I ended up changing the name in the story because I didn't want it to look like I'd based the character on him.

It could happen

If you describe ordinary and common people.

Ah, wait a minute, I have noticed your stories before... Hmn.

Have to check out the OP's stories, if i can find them.

And then maybe both of you can feature in a 'win the lottery' thing.

I rarely tell people, but I can do the 'make things happen' stuff.

What are you going to do with the cash?

Both of you.

Can't find your stories, NotWise.

How about pm'ing me and telling me where to look?

Also, if you guys give me a brief description of yourselves I will find it a lot easier to work with that.

Sometimes, if someone's writing doesn't suggest that it will be that easy to 'make stuff happen' then I don't suggest it.

In this case, it's possible...

Also depends a little on if I'm in the mood.

Or if I'm not too involved in something else at the particular time.

I am in the mood right now.

I'm back. Had to go to a few meetings in the last couple of days.

If NotWise and geronimo-a are still around here someplace - if you have an opportunity to stand in the light coming through a stained glass window at some point in the next few weeks, do that.

If you can't do that, just imagine yourself doing it.

One of you is into boats. Expensive cruisers.
