I don't think they are telling others to bring theirs down. The Yanks know how much emissions they kick out. At least their politicians and business leaders do. Canada has small pop. and must heat heavily during winter but we still suck up huge amounts of energy and have dirty oil sands too. We are as bad. Lots of room to absorb damage and lots of oil over here. Makes us complacent at best.
The three worst without looking it up. I guess China, US then India. Brazil probably 4th maybe Indonesia.
Getting China and India to limit emissions would be awesome. Developing nations look at us (west) and say you did it. It's the price we must pay to be advanced and developed like you.
And that is one way. But not best.
Europe leads in trying, New World doesn't really try and Third World can't afford to.
Would be nice if Canada and the US led the effort to show you don't have to wreck environments to be developed. NA still has lots of wild areas that Europe lacks. Too late for Europe, their forests and much wildlife gone centuries ago. They have seen the effects though.
Here in NA we have a chance to show coal fired plants and deforestation are bad things to have. Maybe pay the price of doing the right thing. Always more money than easy thing.

Bring what down? The planet? I am totally against that, I like living here. The weather is nice, cows are yummy (especially with cheese) and gas guzzling suv's are legal. Torches? Hmm, they have aesthetic value but as I live in a non 3rd world country with electricity, I am ok with bringing those down for the winter, but summer nights on the patio are not the same without a torch.
Cows, which are terrible polluters, are not bred for witty companions here. Maybe a world wide steak n bake could solve our pollution woes. What do you think? Would you be willing to slaughter every cow to save the planet?

Most American corporations are focused on their bottom line, so environmental protection gets the shaft more often than not.

Who gave them this right? The fact that the U.S. has more global power and influence than any other country as well as the largest GDP. If we don't tell the world, who will? If we don't do it, it won't get done, will it?

I don't care what you do with cows or what your way of thinkng is. You are free to live within the confines of your country and it's attitudes. You created a post accusing Americans of messing up the planet. You have the right to your opinion but don't blind yourself to your hypocrisy. When you live a zero emission life and do nothing to mess up the planet, then please stand on your cow idol and fling all the dung in our faces that you want. Until then I will enjoy my charcoal bbq, suv and ozone eating stainless steel cleaner. Call me when you are emission free.
