Washington Post editorial on Baby Boomers ignites Shitstorm 2015

A Washington Post editorial pointing out the glaringly obvious...that Baby Boomers have taken far more out of America than they have contributed....has created a minor shitstorm on the Potomac.

Boomers soaked up a lot of economic opportunity without bothering to preserve much for the generations to come. They burned a lot of cheap fossil fuels, filled the atmosphere with heat-trapping gases, and will probably never pay the costs of averting catastrophic climate change or helping their grandchildren adapt to a warmer world. They took control of Washington at the turn of the millennium, and they used it to rack up a lot of federal debt, even before the Great Recession hit.

If anyone deserves to pay more to shore up the federal safety net, either through higher taxes or lower benefits, it’s boomers — the generation that was born into some of the strongest job growth in the history of America, gobbled up the best parts, and left its children and grandchildren with some bones to pick through and a big bill to pay.

Reaction from boomers has been swifty, and more than a bit whiny.

While I see your point, even THAT'S not necessarily true. There is certainly something to be said for simply the way our society is designed to function and the baby boomers not having enough kids to play the game properly. (I think it's an easy enough problem to solve mind you but still there it is.)

I think the editorial neatly contrasts the mindset of the so-called "Greatest Generation" vs. the entitled mentality of the Boomers (and yes, I am a Boomer myself).

Those who came of age in the 1920s and 30s grew up in a horrendous Depression-fueled poverty that libertarians can only dream about inflicting on America. They came of age and immediately were thrust into the largest war in the history of mankind.

The Boomers were to reap the fruits of their parents' victory. The industrial world in Europe was in ruins, and Asia was still a backwater. The golden age of American Exceptionalism bloomed, and arguably continued until the Oil Embargo of 1973.

By then the Boomer entitlement mentality was set in stone. Mortgages will always be low. The economy will always be strong. College will always be inexpensive. We've made it illegal to discriminate against #ThosePeople, so #ThosePeople should just #GetOverIt.

The lessons the Boomers taught their own children "I got mine, go get yours!" hasn't translated well in the New World Order.

The Saxon homeland, Saxony, is part of Germany, so Anglo-Saxon is a combination of British and German.

According to Pew, just over 70% of the population in the US professes to be Christian, and more than 20% of that number are Catholics. After subtracting black Protestants, the number of white Protestants is a little over 43% of the population. I don't know what part of that 43% is Slavic or Italian or other non-Anglo-Saxon white, but WASPs probably total about a third of the population.
