My copy editor and I got into a debate about the pictures in this post. I won't share the details of the debate because that muddies the water. Instead here's the four versions we discussed. Feel free to add your opinions but don't feel you have to. Lit is supposed to be fun and not work.

This is a different angle to your usual shower pics. Are the second two uncropped versions of the first two?

And there's got to be some way I can compensate you?

My preference is for the two you've chosen to show on the thread. In the 'full' versions. the angle diminishes your back, and my keeps being drawn to the shower plumbing. I'm finding it really distracting in those two photos.

One of the issues, for me, with all of them is that the water is too bright, or hot, whichever term you prefer. It reminds of me of photos that were scanned with dust on the plate. I know it's water, but it doesn't visually 'read' as water to me.

When it comes to the two that you've got displayed in your post, the choice of black and white versus color depends on the effect you're going for. In this case, the color one is interesting, because the background has a natural black & white quality, so it gives emphasis to skin tone. The lighting is subtle, but enough to highlight natural contours for the eye to follow.

My preference is generally for black and white, so I've been looking at that one trying to figure out why I don't like it more. Part of it is that the water is really accentuated in it. The brightness at the bottom of the photo leading up the the very dark top is interesting, but the level of brightness on the bottom is a strong pull to my eye to keep coming back to it, even when I'm trying to look at the rest. Also, your arms are so dark in the black and white that it's harder to see their natural contours. The contrast issues can be diminished or heightened by the tilt of a laptop screen, so I checked it out on my phone as well. On the phone your butt isn't quite as bright, but your arms are still a bit too dark, in my opinion.

All that said, I don't dislike any of the photos, but I wouldn't choose them for your "best of" collection.


May I confess that my favorite part of the two displayed is the little ass crease under your right cheek?

I like the crops as well Lyric. The water looks that way because I forced a flash. I am tempted to try again without. I honestly wouldn't choose them for my highlights reel either. And here I suspected you'd prefer a different crease. Go figure.

I personally like the uncropped photos, I like seeing more of your legs. And I'm a big fan of B&W normally but do like the contrast of water on your skin in the colour here.

You know me, I like anything with butts in them, but I do agree that it doesn't read as water. It's like the old timey photos with scratches on the film or something.

How useful since at times I have quite a pain in my...never mind. I was going to cover the full range of treatments but I don't want to mix me and some of the other things up in people's minds.

That's what my time on Lit has taught me that you just never know what picture you're going to like or why. It's fun when one just catches you for no good reason.

I do like to be useful. You just show me where that pain is, and I'll see if I can treat it for you. There may be some side effects, but I've been assured that they're worth it.

It is interesting to see which pictures grab your attention and try to figure out why it has the impact that it does. You just never know what you'll discover behind some images.

Yes that's why art is so powerful (even what passes for art on Lit). Each image, painting, sculpture, etc. talks to each of us differently and often evokes a wide range of responses. Art illuminates the souls of man for better or worse.

None of my remedies involve the word 'cough', so that won't be a problem. I usually prescribe things like laughter and other expulsions.
