Shooting at the aptly named Cracker Barrel ruled and accident.

A man with a concealed carry permit lost control of his pistol and it dropped to the floor. The pistol fired and wounded an unarmed Cracker Barrel customer. It was declared a "no harm, slight foul," situation and everybody moved along, because there was nothing to see.

This brings up an important question. When a person gets a concealed carry permit, does this include any instruction on how to actually carry the weapon? Since the shooting was ruled accident, sort of like forgetting to put your transmission in park before getting out of the car, no charges were filed.

How exactly does that work? Is it legal to negligently handle a firearm which results in injury, and there's no responsibility attached.

This makes it an act of God.

Safety. On.

Negligence if not malice. Incompetence if not intent.

The answer is "Yes." So the question is quite unimportant.

The question is why aren't persons with concealed carry licenses required to have liability insurance in case of an accident like this?

Actually since he wasn't being robbed or his life being threatened, in Florida he could have (Cops discretion) been charged with brandishing a firearm. The fact that it discharged and injured someone should have resulted in his arrest but it happened in Sanford, FL so Yeehaaaa, another watercooler story.

Why are people more responsible for who they harm with their car than who they harm with a gun?

Not if I'm a bad guy casing the joint. I'm taking you out first, and I'm approaching you from behind. Quietly.

You're not necessarily thinking like a bad guy.

Realistically the bad guy finds another joint to case.

This is why crimes of opportunity diminish with less opportunity.

The fuck?

If I park my car in such an improper way that it rolls off and injures people, you can bet your posterior charges would be filed.

That's not going to stop him from getting sued in civil court by the person he/she accidentally shot.
