I'm very surprised none of the usual suspects are claiming Daesh are responsible for taking it down, especially since Daesh are claiming they did.
Are they all on holiday?

Eeyore posted something last night. But the experts seem to be saying that IS don't have anything that can take out an aircraft at 31,000 feet.

Who is Daesh, Below Aberage:confused:

My bad. I searched for 'russian' and 'sinai' and didn't see any relevant thread titles.
And yeah, I'm aware of what the people who are familiar with the group in Egypt are saying, but stuff like that usually doesn't matter to certain folks.

All you can count on is that everyone is lying.
So a Russian plane didn't really crash?

what's the point of this thread?
A plane was blown up...people crying in Russia over dead relatives.
The OP wants to discuss....what:confused:

I hope it was not a maintenance issue and the explosion of the center fuel tank. I am in A321s a few times a week.

Better that it be raghead dipshits in service to Allah.

I am afraid to fly but I have to get on a plane to Italy. Reading about this makes me very anxious.

Just ask for 'Emirates'. They seldom boom-boom one of their own, plus:
gorgeous (male) stewards, all from different parts of the globe… *sigh*

Probably shouldn't have clicked on the thread. ;)

Maybe go look at some spectacular car crash videos.
The fact that plane crashes are so hyped is the only reason I can think people are afraid to fly but think nothing of taking a car trip.
2000-2009 statistics (what I readily found)
Passenger deaths per 1 billion miles traveled
Car - 7.28
Plane - 0.07

And if it's terrorists blowing up the plane that worries you, you're more likely to die from cancer caused by the full body scan going through security than you are from terrorists blowing up the plane.

It's interesting that people seem to be the most afraid of things that are the least risk. The mind is a funny thing.

It is not the mind, it is the media and their puppet masters.

Imagine that the lead on the story was "240 were more likely to die from cancer caused by the full body scan going through security than they were on a flight from Russia today." or "Some folks hit the wrong lottery, one they were less likely to win"

It's a control issue. When we are in a car, we feel in control. Once the door is shut on a plane, all we can do is sit there and hope the loudest noise we hear is the wheels hitting the next runway.

If true I am sure the Russians will have a different ROE policy than we did....

But why would ISIS want to turn Russia's focus from anti-Assad groups towards them?

Also has the altitude been confirmed?

Because while Russian stingers have a limited range, our version hits 26K.
But of course USA gear never falls in to the wrong hands.......

Too early to say on this, obviously.

Occam's Razor says malfunction. There's no reason to believe any conspiracy theory, especially one that states that IS somehow got a surface to air missile capable at 30,000 feet.

Of the players in the area, If it was shot down, the likely culprits would be the Egyptians, the Israelis, the US, or the Russian government.

But why?

Why would it have to be a missile if you have figured out how to get a suitcase bomb on board?

Occam's Razor says: It could be drunken Russian Maintenance of its fleet...

YES! That's definitely part of it.

Thanks for the info. I'll meditate on that.

I did not fear flying before 911.

Russian plane crash: U.S. intel suggests ISIS bomb brought down jet

The latest U.S. intelligence suggests that the plane crash was most likely caused by a bomb on the plane planted by ISIS or an ISIS affiliate, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter.

"There is a definite feeling it was an explosive device planted in luggage or somewhere on the plane," the official said, stressing that no formal conclusion had been reached by the U.S. intelligence community.

The assessment was reached, the official said, by looking back at intelligence reports that had been gathered before Saturday's plane crash and intelligence gathered since then. The United States did not have credible or verified intelligence of a specific threat before the crash. However, the official said, "there had been additional activity in Sinai that had caught our attention."

Another U.S. official said the intelligence regarding ISIS is in part based on monitoring of internal messages of the terrorist group. Those messages are separate from public ISIS claims of responsibility, that official said.

Yw, below_average.

I'm surprised nobody has put forth the theory that Putin did it as an excuse to step up his military involvement in the ME.
