I just watched the new trailer for SW episode 7, TFA. Just based on what I gather despite the Emperor & Vader being dead, The Death Star & Vader's Super Star Destroyer (aka Executioner) being destroyed, the rebellion has apparently failed or at best is in full retreat.

Furthermore, the main hero apparently is going to be a storm trooper turned.... Jedi? Who trained him Chewbacca? Luke is the Last of the Jedi, if Luke didn't train him who did, the microbes? This movie is obviously a reboot, a la transformers for a few more installments and has WTF written all over it.

IDK, but this film seems to be destroying 20 years worth of Star Wars lore from the comics, novels, and games that all occurred in the timeline post Emporer and Vader. This timeline they are making these movies in has been well developed and Lucas approved already, now they're just going to reboot it?

So who cares. At $10+ a ticket it's going to bust records even if it sucks and even if no one shows up.

IMO they should have gone backwards to the Knights of the Old Republic, like a 1000 year before prequel, since every Star Wars fan already knows what happened post Vader, but I'm not in charge.

Maybe i'll just wait for the formatted and edited to fit the time allotted version....

I don't really care for the Star Wars franchise. As long as they make money, I don't think the story line inconsistencies matter to Disney.

the novels, comics and what not have never been considered canon, so i suggest you go ahead and get the fuck over it. only the movies matter.

suck it.

Give them your money or don't. Purchasing entertainment was never put so well as P.T. Barnum so aptly put it, or didn't put it.

Or you could buy 3 lbs of ground beef.

I enjoyed SW, to some degree, but Battlestar Galactica (the 2004- series) were so much better.
I just don't get it why they didn't continue.

i believe the girl was the jedi, but whatever.

and of course the empire still has a presence. it controlled the majority of a galaxy. you don't wipe something like that out with one damned battle.

and last i heard, mark is in the damned thing. i didn't seem him in the trailer, but that doesn't mean shit.

The thing is after episodes 4,5,6 there was a need to do 1,2 & 3 to fill in the gaps and make Lucas a few boatloads of money to fund his projects. That's understandable but Episode 7 looks like a reboot. I may be jumping the gun I dunno this bit of dialog in the new trailer

The chic "Those stories about what Happened"

Han Solo " It's all true, all of it. The darkside, The Jedi, they're real."

So apparently the Rebel Alliance, the Jedi , the Force are myth. The History of the Empire obviously gone through a revision of sorts. Smells like a reboot to me.

Absolutely correct and is the best explanation.

I'm picky when it comes to story lines in series, continuity is important in story telling when your dealing with an established franchise to preserve the quality. I don't consider comics, animated series or a bazllion novels and what transpires within as canon because too many people are sticking their hands in the pie so to speak.

i've also read little snippets of interviews where you talked about how they made him get in shape for it.

because he's old and he got tubby. it happens.

Yeah, there was a big (untrue) rumor about him almost dying during filming. Something about him almost falling off a mountain or something.

He's in it. They're just holding him back from the promotional stuff.

Wait a minute. Wasn't Princess Leia with the Force as well. Maybe she
taught that young storm trooper a thing or two... May the cougar be with you...

There are plenty of continuity errors in the canon films, you know. Look at R2-D2, between episode 3 and 4. He goes from a rocket-powered pyrotechnic and weapon-laden badass to a tin can who can't even defend himself against Jawas.

How do you get all this information from a trailer that's mostly dogfights and 1/2 second flashes of characters?
Luke is in it, everyone knows that and nobody knows right now who the Jedi is because the trailers don't say and nobody has seen the movie.
Plus it's not the empire, it's the First Order or something like that. A remnant of the empire with a Sith who is obssessed with Darth Vader.
And it's not a reboot. Holy shit, people use that word wrong way too much.

That's like the exact opposite of a reboot.

Oh, btw, you know how people are going on about Luke not being on the poster? I think he is. I think he's the scary dude in the mask.

No that's Kylo Ren and he's a legit character I think from some source or other. That's what I've read anyway. I don't follow the whole expanded universe stuff.
Anyway, Luke is Luke from what I've read so far. Could be a twist but that's doesn't seem to be Abrams style or typical Star Wars.

it's possible.

and it almost makes sense.

you know, in the it's being made by the same guy who made star trek into darkness kind of way.

who knows? we'll find out.

still, into darkness really kinda sucked. i just think i need to mention that again, because it sucked and it made me want to stab mr. abrams with a rusty butter knife.
