Refugees with Smart Phones

Syrian society was cosmopolitan, educated, artistic, prosperous - and then in no time a total collapse into an agony of destruction and fear and suffering ... so do you expect the well motivated guys seeking to get out of there to leave their phones on the table for the fanatics or what?

Have you any understanding at all what those guys have been going through and the urgency of the situation and the inadequacy of the international response in terms of shelter on their borders? You telling me that if it was you in that situation you would sit it out? and that if you had the gumption to get up and get out of there you would leave your phone behind?

Mean. Blinkered. nay, culpably self blinded.

Wrong country.
Those are americans from the charitable catolic organization "Save the children".

The refugees are percentage-wise, not al that Syrian.

;)

Remember, most terrorists are sons of the more affluent, everyone else is just struggling for life...

Wonder why they left?

How are they paying the Roaming Fees?

They left because there WAS a Syria and it is no more.

They can pay the roaming fees because they are resourceful people - the kind of people who can contribute to the economy of another nation where they eventually settle - as have so many refugees before them. Most societies have been enriched in all sorts of ways by those who have migrated into them. In the case of the British Isles it's been going on since the seventh century and we're doing ok.

Maybe they should sell their phones on eBay and fly to the UK if they're that well off.

you are the reason the UK is doomed

We're not racists for making fun of them, imo.

Because, those syrians who got on the boats probably had enough money to pay their fare. So they could have also used that money to get out of harm's way, in their own country.
Whereas the poor syrians can't do either.
And by the time Eu countries wake up and think, for ex., to evacuate the real at risk syrians - too late: their resources would've been depleted by this first wave of opportunistic 'reffugees'.
Kinda tragic.

Strangely, I just read a piece about suspected arsons in Germany aimed at properties slated to host those who flee in the face of the religion of peace.

Then one has to wonder why our government took it upon themselves to foment a revolution.

They've got plenty of money and other resources, but visas and passports aren't among them. There's a little problem with the bureaucracy in Syria.

You're usually smarter than this. Did you wake & bake this morning?

It's called "bribery".If you have enough money, you can get almost anything in certain countries.
EDIT
Although on second thought, my logic is wrong - visas are issued by the country that you are flying towards, not from.

But I am wondering: how could All those boats get past the syrian patrols in their coastal waters?
I mean, a few like 4-5 boats - they could sneak through, but as many as that?

If the UK was invaded tomorrow, and I was forced to flee, I'd have the sense to pack my fucking phone. Jews fleeing Nazi Germany took diamonds and gold.

Do real refugees only come from mud huts?

Exactly. Many could buy their way to many places.

But instead, they do the Faux Refugee thing so they can sidestep the law and go where they want.

I think they should be looking at popping Tom. He seemed a little too eager to have them as neighbors to be actually sincere. I think it was a cover for a nefarious German plan.

Maybe someday you will get it that people who need to flee their country and find political asylum someplace else are likely to be people with capital, and a profession, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Plenty do fly. Why the heck do you think that an airport such as Heathrow serving London has a permanent office for those who claim political asylum on arrival? That's normal stuff in a world of brutal dictators and fanatics; the only thing that's abnormal just now is the number - but a big country has just collapsed into terrifying chaos - did you not hear about that?

Thankfully, many of the ones with nothing, and the ones who have been robbed of everything by the fanatics, have managed to get to UNHCR refugee camps in Jordan, and Lebanon or are hosted in Iraqi Kurdistan by those brave and generous-spirited middle-easterners who are so putting Westerners to shame.

I think I understand.

Seems to me that these people should simply report to the UNHCR camps our governments pay for, yes?

In Canada, we take our refugee quota from those screened by UNHCR.

They would in an instant, if they could do it.

But every airline flying to Europe is liable for the repatriation of the passenger if his application for asylum failed and he has to go back. So most airlines deny those flights, even in inner Europe. Every European can fly from Budapest to Munich sometimes for just 6 Euro.

Refugees can't.
