i've never seen him.
...i've seen him around.
i just never paid attention.

i can't imagine the left giving up on late night.

'cause they sure suck at radio.

Did you see him in the Colbert Report? He is hard left of Letterman. The only person that works harder to make conservatives look ridiculous is Busybody. Both putting on an act, both caricaturizng the absolute worst stereotypes about conservatives.

he's topical
quirky
and entertaining...

he's also a departure from what latenight is expecting to be...

he is getting the gets.
that's what matters.
and
he listens to his live audience;
if only as a cue card...
kinda refreshing.

dangerously vibrant
and awkward.

colbert has always been liberal.
did you never not watch his show?

it was a subversive mix of shock and awe...
new shoes and suit...
same tasty pig beneath.

swami predicts that his way will become the standard
until the next one that becomes the one.

your dvr records far worse shit.
far far worse...

Never've watched a single show of his at all, but a story I read earlier today seems to have recorded his full coming-out as the partisan he obviously is. It compared the previous political guests he's had on already - how he's treated them - to what happen when he had Ted Cruz on last night.

Just Google "stephen colbert ted cruz" and note the sources to learn not only how it went, but also find out who his most prominent, partisan media supporters just as obviously are.

The beautiful thing though will be the cognitive dissonance that happens when those that have formed all their political opinions from two comedy central shows have to watch that stupid, myopic "conservative" caracature that they have cut their political teeth on suddenly espousing Jon Stewart's ideas. Many of the lowest information voters barely understood when he was lampooning.

It will be just like Dave. Long on snark, absent any substance. The choir he preaches to will love it and learn nothing, and the other half the country will tune him out.

All modern media, left and right is becoming so. People want to hear what they believe espoused and nothing else.

Oh. I thought this was going to be an actual discussion on Stephen Colbert's politics.

Turns out it's a bunch of hacks who are bitter about his rapidly-expanding presence.

Yes, Colbert is liberal. Yes, his fans have always been aware that he was "lampooning." It was conservatives who had trouble figuring out the satire.

You're not unspooling some grand mystery here. Everyone has been in on the joke from the beginning. E... very... one.

Jesus Christ.

It started as a comedy bit on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show." The daily show gave Jon Stewart a platform to espouse left leaning (only) viewpoints. Whenever anyone engaged his schtick in serious articles rebutting his point of view, he shrugs and says "I'm just a comedian." Surveys showed a staggering number of young voters reporting him as their most trusted news source.

The bit started with Colbert as Stewart's foil playing a mock conservative.

They spun it off into its own show and focused on him being a bible-thumping, gay hating, gun wielding arch-type. There were plenty of dog-whistle racial politics introduced.

You realize that 1/2 of the population is below the median for intelligence? E...very...one understood all the nuances? Really?

There used to be a very defined line between journalism and propaganda. There is not one now on the right or on the left. Despite claims that we have an informed electorate that is hip enough and smart enough that everyone gets it, plenty do not.

True.

I also possess multiple weapons because my penis is so little, and am full of terrifying fear of absolutely everyone not exactly like me.

So, you see, I have rational excuses for this hackness you describe.

What're yours?

The only people that didn't understand that Colbert's on-air persona was a caricature of the far right, were those on the far right, especially those right wing politicos who were blindsided and made to look like complete fools. This explains your reference to the "lowest information voters" and the "half of the population being below median intelligence. :D

The only people surprised that Colbert leans left are those who weren't smart enough to pick up on the obvious satire on display in every single moment of his show.

As for your attempted slam of viewers of both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, the proof is in the pudding as they say. Those who watched either of those self described "fake news shows", or no news at all, turned out to be better informed about current events than those who watched right leaning "news" sources *cough* FauxNews *cough*.

Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back for being a liberal which of course makes you smart.

I decided that it was redundant to debunk that exact study for the 6th time on this board which is why I edited it out of my post above

Since you didn't care to look at the numbers like somebody that can actually follow numbers last time I'm sure you won't want to this time

Here's a very important hint the people who reported themselves as Fox viewers and liberal scored the lowest of all respondents..

Have you followed the news the last 3 months? Caricaturing conservatives more deftly than they can caricature themselves is no longer possible.

The answer to the question:

1. Yeah, Colbert is a liberal of the bleeding heart Catholic variety.
2. It's not a political show; it's an entertainment show. Jokes, songs, that kinda thing. This distinction escapes the likes of Eyer, who get their entertainment from Freeperesque radio shows emanating from trailers in the desert.

Colbert's political inclination shouldn't be news to anyone in the States at this point who doesn't live under a rock. He's entertaining.

Like a TV, I don't possess a radio, and I believe the last time I listened to any sort of "radio" show was probably 4 or 5 years ago when I think I listened to a Colts playoff game online.

Distinctions, btw, hardly ever escape "the likes of Eyer"; else, they wouldn't be very Eyeresque at all.

I never considered Letterman "political"

He was just genuinely funny.

I remember the left bitching about Rush Limbaugh being a part of the media while being ultra-conservative, and the right responding that he wasn't reporting the news, but was only an entertainer.

So the shoe's on the other foot and guess who's complaining about the politics of an entertainer now? It's funny how thing come 'round if you only wait.

That's the thing. Rush Limbaugh is NOT an entertainer. He may not be a news source specifically but he's not an entertainer.

I don't think 10% could be considered staggering. The poll merely said 10% trusted him.

Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ has become propaganda for Democrats

So Stephen Colbert turns out to be just as much of an a-hole as “Stephen Colbert.” Viewers have noticed.

After an initial burst of interest spurred by CBS’s big-bucks saturation advertising campaign for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the show’s ratings have tanked and it is now running third in late night behind NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, who rarely has managed second place before.

The reason? A survey by the Hollywood Reporter found that conservative viewers are turning off Colbert in droves. Nearly twice as many Republicans are watching Kimmel as Colbert, who has turned “Late Show” into a sort of wannabe MSNBC program.

well, there you go.

if the nyp says so...

it must be so.

Colbert Report & Late Night are two vastly different shows. He played a character on the Report born of the Daily Showand himself on Late Night. Other than that, you were spot on!

He's a lefty. Never had a bad word to say about Canada. Some funny shit but nothing bad. That's respect. He's a lefty.
