I am partial to dogs.

Me too, I think.
I was practically talked into having a beagle but I am not sure he wanted to share his chew toys. ;)

Of course, then I would probably need a turtle.

Now I think I must have a gerbil...or a ferret. I had a ferret named Cloe. I miss her. She was the sweetest!

Islandman has two ferrets, I think? He was on the other day, he's posted pictures of them before.

Gorgeous, most Siamese mixes I've had have the light blue eyes, those are very pretty. True blue.

My cousin has a husky pitt mix and it has such blue, almost white eyes. I will try to get a good picture of him tomorrow if I have time before my trip.

I'll subscribe, post it to this thread if you get a pic. Those dogs have a good nature.

I've got a dog, a puppy, really small ... won't let me cut his nails, I tried to do it while he slept, but he woke several times, now he eyes me whenever I turn in my chair to do it (need a new chair that doesn't squeak when it turns) ... tucks his feet under his body above my pillows where he sleeps ... think I scarred him for a bit ... I'm trying to spend more time touching his paws, get him used to the feeling ... any advice from dog owners?

I'm not a pet guy, but I took this little bastard so my cousin didn't have to turn it over for possible annihilation.

Good job on saving the little guy!! Any pix? Cody is squeamish about nail trimming as well, I have the groomer do it lol.

I don't post anything that can lead back to me ... even my last post might be a bit too much.

In training horses we apply a method called "sacking out". It is worth looking up as the ideology behind it can be applied to dogs as well.

The biggest hurdle you will likely face is learning not to reward behaviours you don't want. Ie. nervous dog shouldn't get coddled or "baby talked" to. You always want to strive for calm assertive to your dogs calm submissive. Remember, what you are asking is to trust you above what his instincts tell him to do.

With all that, start from scratch. Chose a different location, start with full body rubs until he is completely relaxed. Circle back to legs/feet over and over at mixed intervals until he doesn't flinch or otherwise resist the touch there. Only reward what you want to have repeated in behaviour. Then bring out the clippers, same slow steps building up trust with them in sight, then with them touching him...it goes on from there by steps but I am sure you get the picture. Your dog will determine how fast this progresses.

Hope that helps, I am distracted with daily routine so i may have been a bit jumbled.

Good luck.

I have never been much of a pet person, but rodents seem an odd choice.

They're pretty but strange creatures. They do make me think of rodents too, but I believe they're closer to weasels. I'm not sure I'd want them for that reason either.

I love my dog, but the cat is a love as well. She reminds me a bit of a dog in how affectionate she is. I don't feel like fixing the picture. It's sideways.
