From the GB.

Actually it not that complicated.

Texas alone has thousands of prison inmates that would be happy to work for a reduced sentence and prove they can trusted to be law abiding citizens again.

We have a hell of a lot of limestone and other rock here too.

The armed forces, as part od their training can patrol and capture anyone who attempt an illegal crossing...and it will be good training as well as practice for foreign deployment.

Naturally the drug trade will suffer but, well Somebody's got to lose and with the Army, Navy and Air force...National Guard, States guardsman involved patrolling all of our borders lots of shit is going to come to a screeching halt!

And the cost well...relatively cheap.

Still going to cost hundreds of bazzilions of dollars and will do little more than create a bigger pricier black market for coyotes and such to play with.

LOL no it won't.....MAYBE if we go into mexico to fuck with the cartels it would be good training. But border patrol would be a shit detail for shit bags and nasty girl.

Naturally the drug trade will suffer.

Nothing the US government has done in over 50 fucking years with trillions of dollars, thousands of lives and the full force of the US government hasn't done anything but create a cat and mouse game the US can't keep up with. The drug trade will adapt and laugh in your face as it grows and profits soar.

Basically Bot covered it. The wall is a stupid idea for stupid people who want to waste good money.

Why all the crap about inmate labor and military training? Don't you want to create jobs?

Maybe you'd like to prepare a proposal to build the Keystone pipeline with inmate labor.

A few facts to consider:
1. The wall would have to be longer than the Great Wall of China to cover both continental borders.
2. You could surround Afghanistan with a shorter fence than the one on the southern Canada-US border.
3. The complete US-Canadian fence would be approximately 3 times the proposed length of the US-Mexico fence.

But go ahead, just don't expect us to contribute to your folly.

On the other hand, a fence to keep Americans in might be worth the investment.

The UK has a barrier - The English Channel. That doesn't stop illegal immigrants from stowing away on trucks crossing the Channel by ferry or the Channel Tunnel (or even trying to walk through the Tunnel). Or by hiring a yacht and being dropped off at a small marina anywhere on our coast.

But the majority of our illegal immigrants are those who came to the UK to "Study" and either failed to return home when their course ended, or were on fake courses already. Immigrants who have applied for asylum as genuine refugees vanish into the community if their request for asylum is denied.

Our real problem is not illegals but the numbers of LEGAL immigrants, particularly family members of those already legally in the UK, and immigrants from within the EU seeking employment. While we appreciate that young people in Spain and Greece cannot find jobs, we cannot employ all the unemployed Spanish and Greek youngsters. When we add those seeking work from Eastern Europe? The net population growth is unsustainable.

Refugees are different. We, like other countries who have signed up to the UN accords on refugees, should take and give asylum to genuine refugees. The problem is "What is a genuine refugee?". Most leave their country without paperwork because they cannot get official papers in a country where the government isn't functioning. Others, who might be economic migrants and not from a war-torn country, destroy their papers and claim to be refugees. The UK doesn't do enough for genuine refugees mainly because we are swamped by legal and illegal immigrants. We are a small country and we are not building enough homes for people already here. The numbers arriving each year need much more housing than we can build in that year.

Walls don't work. There are ways around them, under them or over them. Increased border patrols led by intelligence aimed at disrupting people smugglers are likely to be more effective.

I say build the stupid thing to shut them the fuck up.

At least it will employ a bunch or people for a while. That said, Halliburton, Lockheed, or any company that has a for profit prison is ineligible to bid.

Why not spend tens of billions of dollars building and maintaining a useless structure. The Republicans have become the party of wasteful spending with their empty investigations, shutdowns and worthless votes.

Because it will shut them up. At least that's what we're hoping. Sometimes throwing a dog a bone is a good idea. I'm not sold it is here but it's not worth dying over.

Infrastructure is crumbling
Public education and trade training cost are out of control
Wall Street criminals haven't been brought to justice

And the Reps can only get hardons for walls?

Here's the issue. Infrastructure is only crumbling if a bridge collapses with you on or under it. Otherwise its a freak accident that nobody could have predicted.

Public education sucks because socialism! And trades are for people to stupid to go to college and get a real job.

Wall Street criminals are above reproach and without them we wouldn't even HAVE jobs to complain about losing.

A wall keeps dirty Mexicans out.

As Chris Christie points out 40% of them simply come in legally. So nearly half the problem ignores the wall outright. Now that said the 60% would make a nice focus since it is obviously the larger problem. OF them how many are sneaking across the border and how is importand if a wall is a real answer.

No wall is needed. Simply deport the ones we arrest.

But how do you get a fence to float on the Great Lakes? We want a wall too! The Romans didn't make the Scots pay for Hadrian's Wall or the Antonine Wall. Yanks can pay for their own walls. Lot of pissed of beach front property owners on the south shore of the Great Lakes with a huge fence stopping European Migrant Crisis types and terrorists coming from Canada. A wall would seriously cut down on our illegal drug and gun problem up here. Anyway to make it an electronic fence that stops American media transmissions?

Not as far fetched as some Yanks think!

Israel is also a smaller country.

Walls haven't been particularly relevant in decades if we're being honest.
