This I Believe

I agree. Lets just go be hermits in the desert somewhere. Well...not the SAME desert, cause then we wouldn't be hermits. How bout I take Alaska and the deep woods there, you can have wherever you want.

Nah. I like the art and restaurants of civilization. Plus my kid would drive me nuts if he didn't have places to visit, I.e. museum, library, gandfolks. He is a social butterfly like I use to be. lol

Well secretly I thought that it would be a shame to deprive civilization of you. They can do without me and I've never been that welcome anyway. But you? It would be a shame if people could not bask in the glory once in a while, even if only from afar.

-_- I hate being worshiped. Please stop kissing my ass. Just be nice and I won't eat you or feed you to my young. :D

I also believe this to be a lie. Humans as a species are selfish. More so now than any other time in our existence. Not nice but I have lots of proof.

This I believe, all humans are inherently capable of both selflessness and selfishness. However, it is "easier" to be selfish and most people look for the easy way out of almost any given situation.

I believe that I am who and what I am because of all the people who have touched my life. Some have taught me lessons I didn’t want to learn, or shown me truths I didn’t want to see. Sometimes it’s been painful. But I can’t feel badly towards them, because they are now part of me. Hating them would be like hating myself.

There is a genie that lives in the heart. He says, "Dream." He says, "Fantasies do come true." He says, "Dream that nothing is impossible, if only you want it bad enough."

He's so seductive. He tells lies so smoothly; it's easy to believe. But he lies.

So, now and then it's necessary to grab that evil little motherfucker by the throat, silence his lies, and cram him back in the bottle. Then jump up and down on the lid a few times.

There is a place for fantasies; but that place isn't guiding my life.

I believe you need a hug. *hugs*

Things happen for a reason. You can play the "what if" game all you want. But when it comes right down to it, you have the experiences you do because of the specific series of choices you make. And if even one of those choices were different your life might be significantly different. Maybe not for the better. So I choose to believe that I've done the best I could, and live and learn with the choices I've made.

There are limitations to what anyone person can accomplish. I believe that these limitations are put in place largely by the individual they are affecting. Most people find themselves in situations that hinder or make accomplishing their dreams a goals at some point. When they do, it is nearly always the result of a decision or a series of decisions made prior.

There are exceptions of course. These are usually the result of someone else inflicting their will upon the person. The lose of liberty or even life is an obvious exception.

Also, there are real physical limitations. I mean, science would suggest that we cannot travel at the speed of light on earth and stopping on a dime while trying would certainly kill us.

Then again, there were those who said man will never fly. Now it is the preferred means of transportation. Then they said we could never break the sound barrier. We'd never make it to the bottom of Challenger Deep. We'd never put a man on the moon.

I'm just glad someone out there believes dreams do come true and goals can be accomplished.

If you believe dreaming is a waste of time, you aren't wrong. It is a waste of time for you. What we believe (or do not) defines our limitations. Sometimes, what we dream can be accomplished in ways we hadn't thought of. It's not a matter of limitations. It's a matter of finding the solution that helps you reach the dream. Maybe I can't snap my fingers and teleport to another place on the planet, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. It just might not happen the way I imagined it would.

Thank you dreamers and goal setters! You've made life even more incredible.

Don't just take my word for it. Here's what Plato had to say: The Allegory of the Cave

I believe it's important to know the difference between dreams and fantasies. Everyone needs to dream; how empty life would be without them.
I dream that I will still be able to ski with my son in 20 years. I dream that after I retire I will volunteer as a CASA (court appointed special advocate for kids). These are possible.
I fantasize about being an NBA point guard, down 2 points with 3 seconds left - give me the ball. But, I'm 5'9", slow, and jump about as well as your average elephant. Never happening.
Sometimes, I just need to recognize when something is over the line, and it's a fantasy not a dream; and learn to move on.

James, I almost never fail to agree with nearly everything you have to say.

I believe that the barriers we put up between ourselves and others are largely a self imposed delusion.

Ah, so the struggle isn't with dreaming or goals, but it is, rather, a struggle with sanity. I see.

Hmm, well, just for the sake of argument, you could play point guard in the NBA. It just won't be in the way you're thinking of.

I think there are mainly three kinds of people here. First are those who are here for their own pleasures. The "I'm taking care of myself" types. We all have stories of those encounters. The second kind is also fairly common, the "Let's have a good time together" people - the "let's take care of each other" people - who are respectful and fun. They sort of make this world go round. The third type is the "Let's build something together and we'll both take care of it" people. These are the rare gems and treasures. They're here to be found, but you have to go through a lot of the first two to find them.

This I believe. The universe we live in is vast and mysterious, and ever-shifting. There are so many points of view about it, and each is correct. Each is also incorrect. What meanings exist, are given by those of us who seek meaning. All meanings are valid.

What category are you in?...Inquiring minds...:rose:

I believe that a connection between two people is a living thing. Something to be fed and nurished, and enjoyed.
Trying to answer questions about it . . . . How? . . . .Why? . . .What is it? - isn't always a good thing. If you dissect any living thing too much - you can kill it.
Trying to fit it into some category, make it fit some pattern,
force it to be anything other than what it is - all takes away from its wonder. Better to leave some things unknown, and just enjoy the joy and beauty while it lives.
