For the yanks.

From Wiki:

Twin brothers Ronald "Ronnie" Kray (24 October 1933 – 17 March 1995) and Reginald "Reggie" Kray (24 October 1933 – 1 October 2000) were English gangsters who were the foremost perpetrators of organised crime in the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s. With their gang, "The Firm", the Krays were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults, and the murders of Jack "The Hat" McVitie and George Cornell.

As West End nightclub owners, they mixed with prominent entertainers, including Diana Dors, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, and with politicians. The Krays were much feared within their milieu, and in the 1960s became celebrities in their own right, even being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television.

They were arrested on 9 May 1968 and convicted in 1969 by the efforts of a squad of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read, and were both sentenced to life imprisonment. Ronnie remained in Broadmoor Hospital until his death on 17 March 1995, but Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August 2000, eight weeks before his death from cancer

Its hard not to love stories like that. I'm sure there is another Whitey Bulger story coming out any day now. I will try to find a book about these two.

What I find strange is there is no mention of who's playing their mother Violet in this version, as she was a huge influence on them.

Billie Whitelaw played her in the other version and was fabulous. That was quite a good film considering Gary and Martin Kemp played the Krays.

Yes there is. Not sure if it's a film or book but I was searching for something on James Bulger and he kept flagging up all the time.

Maybe detective "Lewis" could arrest them in the new movie. I love those old PBS shows.

I haven't been so excited about a movie for yonks. I only wish it had a different name so as to not confuse with Tom Cruise's Legend.

I think Hardy will be perfect as Reg and Ron.

I've always been fascinated by these two mad cunts.

I did not! I really wanted to see it, will have to wait for dvd now. I love Tom Hardy. He's been pretty great in everything I've seen him in and I think he's perfect casting for those two.

Let me find a trailer.

Awwwwwwww yeah. October 2. I'm so there. I still recall the first Krays film even though I only saw it once back when it came out. I was still in art school and the circle I ran with ate up everything style-making coming out of the UK, so that was one of the joints we bum rushed as a group. :D

But the new joint looks legit. Also Emily Browning and my boy Eggy from Kingsman is in it. This betta not miss! :D

Oh yeah, what Smiley said is true. Fury Road was the realest shit out this summer and you honestly should've seen it in the theaters. Not only was it straight-up hardness with very little fat or fluff, it was incredibly vivid. Like, I was mesmerized by the visual aspect alone. I think it's out on disc next month, get that shit! :D

I fucking should have done, yes. I tried to persuade my mates when we were in York but they wouldn't go with me. Fucking bitches. Need to re-think that whole friendship.

Can't wait for this though. I think Emily Browning is good casting. There's a new book out about her character, bet that will be an interesting read. I'm sure she topped herself didn't she? Poor lass. Married into that family no wonder.

I love that top pic. Reg is that fackin' 'aaaard he eats his fry-up with a shooter in his hand.

Now that's a real gangster.

I'm not familiar with the background story, so I really have nothing to add to this conversation, but I feel we should call the other Legend Mia Sara's Legend, or Tim Curry's Legend, or Ridley Scott's Legend, or whatever-that-actor-who-looks-like-the-lead-from-Malcolm-in-the-Middle-but-15-years-earlier's-name-is's Legend, instead of Tom Cruise's Legend.

definitely mia sara's. she was so cute. still is, really. anyway, she wins.

even in ferris bueller. yeah, i said it. suck it, matthew broderick.

I had to look it up to be sure, but they're the guys from Spandau Ballet.

Tim Curry's. There was something strangely sexy about him as Darkness.

Fair enough and understandable.

She has a great voice.

Tim Curry's. There was something strangely sexy about him as Darkness.

Okay. So that's one vote for Mia Sara's and one for Tim Curry's. And, shockingly, no votes for option number four.

I've never understood the fascination with the Krays.

Ok, so some people tend to idolise 'hard men', but spending the vast majority of your life doing porridge says to me 'loser'.

As a northerner I've often been amused by the story that the Krays apparently tried to move in on Newcastle's gang scene, but were sent packing in no uncertain terms. It's most likely apocryphal though as the same tale has been told in regard to other cities.
