Heinz Spotted Dick?

That's not British! That's an American company's idea of a British pudding. A real Spotted Dick tastes nothing like Heinz and should be served with hot custard.

Spotted Dick is nothing like Bread Pudding. It is much heavier and very solid (unless it is Heinz's parody of Spotted Dick).

There's Bread Pudding, and Bread and Butter Pudding. They are different.

Back in the 1960s I was eating at an Irish-themed restaurant in London. I ordered Spotted Dick. The waiter brought the deep steamed pudding basin to the table and inverted it onto a hot plate. As it sat there it began to swell, removed from the constriction of the basin. It came with a quart jug of hot custard.

As I began to eat it, every spoonful I took away was replaced by the expansion of the rest of the Spotted Dick. Eventually it took four of us to finish the every expanding Spotted Dick, and we used the whole quart of custard to wash it down (and copious pints of Guinness!).
