The Official Author's Hangout 2015 Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

Just passed 2k words for something that was intended to hit the minimum. Oh dear.

I've been lucky lately with some recent and older penpals, but it's usually difficult for me, too. Even when I can find them, they're oftentimes too vague or too slow to be of much use. I definitely wouldn't mind a more permanent beta buddy. Just looking at your stories, though, it certainly doesn't look like you need much more help. You're doing quite well already!

Thanks. There's lots I'd like to tighten up though. I wish I had an editor who liked to chat with me about stuff. She just tells me she'll correct errors for my published works, but this isn't working out too well and I don't feel I'm learning.:(

Join a group! I'm a member of two online groups. It's nice to get a reaction from readers.

Here are the one's I use:

Thanks. Will have a go at them when I have better internet access. Atm, my access is so variable, I have 100s of emails to sort through when I have a decent connection.

My Summer Loving Story was actually intended for Nude Day. Fortunately, it fit both themes.

Mine would have probably been better for ND than Summer. The story's currently far less tangential to the theme than I'm comfortable with.

Contests are great for inspiration. Started a little story set on the bayou, in Louisiana late 19th century. before you know it I've got a Faulknerian story of incestuous secrets in a big southern family. Fun fun fun. Researching Creole culture and accents. But now its grown so big there's no way I will finish. btw a "New Orleans" tag search on lit brings up one by TxRad.

:D With over 200 stories, Lit tags are likely to link me with everything and anything.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the little story grows to novel club. Been there forever. Nothing wants to stay short. Uh... story wise.

My stories get linked too, but I do have some unique and rarely sought tags e.g. Chairman Mao.

Short stories? I can do short stories including 50 word ones but it isn't that easy to keep a story short. Some of my initial drafts get drastically pruned to end up as one or two Lit page stories.

LOLZ at Chairman Mao porn: that's an underused theme.

My first two creative writing awards were in "50 word" contests. They're a fun challenge.

Two done, one edited, and a third and fourth under construction.

The so called contest above is a fake so beware.

Now back to the only real contest thread in the AH.

well, that was me busy with stuff. now i can get something done for the Literotica Summer Lovin' Contest. :D

the other contest mentioned is pure BS. i can smell it from here. ;)

Does this story fit the contest?

The story happens all in one day. It's the end of the school year and Ryan's sister Emily is having three friends over for a pool party at their house. Ryan is doing outside work all day, so he drops into the party occasionally when he takes a quick dip into the pool. The girls are all wearing bikinis. Ryan hits it off with one of the girls and the action moves inside.

It's not really summer (probably May at the latest). But it has bikinis and hanging out at the pool all day.

Submit or not?

It does say Summer and May ain't Summer, it's Spring, so...

While it's not technically summer, the end of the school year certainly feels like summer to many people. It's called summer break. Some schools end later than others, too. Do you need to state a date for the plot to work?
Worst case scenario, some voters vote lower because they feel it doesn't fit the contest category. (LC68's moving entry in the most recent contest got complaints that it didn't really fit the Nude Day theme, it still was well over 4.80 in score. )
Most likely scenario, it will be read, enjoyed, and and voted on by more people than if it was submitted as not part of the contest.
I'm personally all for more stories involving water, pools, bikinis etc. and early-summer pools tend to be a little chilly, leading to lots of very hard nipples. ;D

it was 97 in May here. To me that is summer enough.

To me, the start of summer break works. It's undoubtedly summer in the perspective of the characters.

And as to the May thing, my boy didn't get out this year until the second week of June, and had to go back on the fourth of August. That's a steadily increasing trend across the country.

I'll be participating this time. This contest needs more dirty D&D fanfic and I'm happy to provide.

While looting a dungeon, the heroines of my story stumble across a magical book said to grant any wish. In the night of the summer solstice, desires will be murmured and dark wishes fulfilled.

To all the procrastinators out there, listen up. You have one week, I repeat, you have one week. So get your collective asses in gear.

That is all.

Two out of three done! I still have editing to do, but relatively speaking that's easy.

I'm editing my third story. I've got five total. I'm aiming to post a mother/son story next Sunday. I've also got lesbian, bdsm, and two exhibitionist stories.

Ha! True procrastinators know they currently have 3 weeks and 7 hours :D

Lol. I was thinking true procrastinators haven't checked when the final deadline is yet and start dates don't have any real meaning to them, but maybe it's true procrastinators think of snappy responses but put off responding until after someone else does.

Is the Summer contest the most popular theme for writers or something? Why are so many people saying they're submitting more than one story? Or is it a popular theme for readers and everyone wants to get more than one story in front of eyes.

I actually have three stories ready, but I'm not sure how it happened. :) All the stars and planets aligned, I suppose.

I have also had zero luck finding an editor. If anyone here is willing, I'd be happy to swap stories with you.

It's a simple theme. If something's not obviously set in the other three seasons, it doesn't take much to shift the focus and make it a Summer Lovin' story.

Every thing in my working folder right now could fit the theme with only minor tweaks. Most of them are set in summer anyway.

Of course, I'd have to finish something first
