I dislike that sort of decor. Books should say something about their owner.

I'm ok with the books serving both purposes. I like pretty books, especially after being enjoyed from the inside first.

But ones that you will never read? On display? Not like they are coffee table books.

I was given a set of American History novels. They have very little value as books; the writing is atrocious; imagine Horatio Alger telling {badly} the story of Lewis and Clark or the Alamo. The bindings, however, are beautiful. Black tooled leather, very soft and supple, possibly calf, I suppose. I'm so tempted to take them to a leathersmith and ask him to make something for me, but there's that little librarian's voice inside which whimpers, "but they're BOOKS!"
