Secondly, the policies which the straight talk supposedly advocates are typically only supported by a minority of the population, be they on the extreme left or extreme right. In the wake of 9/11 under the Bush administration, we captured hundreds of murderous Al-Qaeda terrorists who were not entitled to protections under any international convention (Geneva), and we've just gone through years of hand wringing because some of them got slapped around during interrogations that the DOJ had previously advised were legal. In the process we, as a society, have ultimately re-defined torture to include acts that a reasonable definition of the word was never dreamed to include.

You want to terminate "mentally defective" government employees? Then you'll probably have to find a way to pass legislation eliminating the state and federal Civil Service systems under which many of those employees are protected.
