Your question implies you have no idea what conservatism is. That is understandable, most Republicans have no idea either.
Where to even begin with that convoluted question... For starters, Republicans as far as I can see are not on a crusade for individual liberty.
How is it that you define Republican "views on gender roles?" Are you still parroting the Mitt Romney is a Mormon and Mormons used to engage in polygamy meme, the fake war on women meme, or are you forward looking "ready for Hillary" it is time for a woman in the White House meme?

Going with the OP, other morality regulations come to mind, too. Many seem to value individual liberties as long as they don't contradict religious beliefs (i.e. giving the government the right to regulate women's bodies).

It's not fake. Even Republican women say Republicans are out of touch with women.
I'm rooting for Bernie Sanders. If he loses the primary I'm all for Hillary because
1) Conservatism is bad for women's rights, and it is bad for men's rights, too;
2) Conservatism is for rich people and suckers... which are you?; and
3) If Hillary wins there will be no more Conserviturds coming into the US Supreme Court for the next 8 years, which could mean a badly-needed reversal of Citizens United AND Hobby Lobby; and finally
4) Bill Clinton becoming the first living President to become the FIRST HUSBAND will immediately, upon election night, cause all geriatric Republicans (particularly the ones in Florida) to die of heart attacks, thus permanently, drastically altering the electoral landscape nationwide.

Again. You have no idea at all what conservatism means. Republicans mean that they are "not liberal" which in and of itself is a bastardized label because liberals are only liberal when it comes to abortion and gay marriage.
Republicans are liberal lite. Republicans and Democrats differ only in what part of your life they think the government should be able to intrude into.
Where you became misinformed, (along with the bulk of the establishment that is now, the GOP) was the misnomer created during the Reagan campaign. The "Social Conservatives." There is no such thing as "social conservatism." It was invented to win an election. It was a wedge issue to separate the blue-dog Democrats in Southern states who tended to be religious from the just out of the free-love 60's big city liberals.
Blue-dog Democrats were not going to vote for a Rockefeller Republican, but the would and did vote for Reagan, a Goldwater conservative. Do you honestly think that a divorced and remarried California Governor and former president of the Screen Actors Guild gave a hoot about Southern Democrat religious values? The point was rebranding. It was called the third leg of the stool.
Apparently for better or worse the rebranding took. For social conservatism to be an actual thing, one would have to be working to preserve what is now the normally accepted American lifestyle, which is anything but what the people that label was invented for.

You must have Conservatism confused with Libertarianism.
And Libertarianism's concept of individual liberty is fucked as well: they would still agree with Hobby Lobby and they argue that it's okay to tell a woman receptionist that she should bend over and take it up the ass to keep her job or she can be fired without legal repercussion. In their twisted universe the corporation and the rich have all the liberty but no one else does - except the liberty to go starve if they don't all take it up the ass one way or another. Particularly women.

Individual liberty is the most naturally powerful inalienable right God endows to man...
...it is because man must be free to decide the ultimate question: does he wish to repent, turn away from the world and the things of this world, and turn back to the relationship with God that God created him for?
Anyone who does not revere God can have no practical conception of what individual liberty truly is, and therefore cannot revere the individual liberty naturally within every human being, let alone herself, too.
Anything else is just wo/man jockeying for advantageous political position among other wo/men, the law of the jungle, he who dies with the most toys wins...
...i.e.:absolutely noting.
Placing all his faith in himself and his fellow man, without any regard to the natural law of his Creator, man decides his illegitimate image of "individual liberty", enslaving some, detaining others, killing many, trying to exert man's power over all...
...so, of course, the same empty philosophy extends just as naturally to all other issues, such as "gender", with the same radically inconsistent - and many times fatal - results that all of man's political flavor of whatever era produces.
