Is the alternative left slated for elimination?

It seems like there is an effort from the establishment left to eliminate the alternative left, at least that portion of it which is independent thinking or when it had different views than the establishment liberals.

For example, the welfare "scientists" in academia are trotted out to attack the alternative left on holistic health issues more and more. Establishment Democrats in California, along with their media friends, led the effort to take vaccination freedom away from parents and families. The majority of the vaccination freedom movement was broadly speaking, "on the left" of the political spectrum, by most accounts. New Agers, holistic health, anti-Big Pharma activists, etc. These are traditional parts of the left, at least by conventional definitions. Who led the attack on them in this case? Establishment Democrats and the welfare "scientists" in academia who rely on the government teat for their money. Top Dems in the legislature openly worked with "Big Pharma" to push the bill through.

We also saw the sidelining of union and leftist opposition to the latest free trade deal, pushed through by the Democrat administration. Opponents of "free" trade are ignored mostly, rather than made fun of like vaccination freedom advocates, but the result was the same.

That's why I've always talked about the "establishment left" or "establishment liberals" rather than just "leftists." There is a different, and sadly, the wrong part of the left seems to be winning. We all lose.

You know who led the attack on the anti vaxxers? Non fucking retarded people.

While I agree with you that getting advice on vaccination from a former porn star is retarded, the OP has a point. You cannot both be the party of "my body, my choice" and "you will vaccinate."

It is reasonable (maybe) to say you cannot have your non-vaccinated child in a public space with other children, putting all at risk. On the other hand if all those children are vaccinated, how will the non-vaccinated child hurt a vaccinated child?

Becomes circular logic.

Also sort of interesting that there are not required quarantine and vaccination of children (and adults) going on in immigrant detention centers. How do they get a choice about that before being released in the general population? I would assume that making that minor condition a requirement for entry into the US would be met with little resistance.

As far as I know, that's exactly what the CA law says. No-one is forcing these morons to vaccinate their kids, although I personally think they should be charged with child abuse if they don't.

A for this bit, they make you get shots for all kinds of shit before they'll give you a green card or permanent residency card. trust me on this, I've done it.

No doubt. I also don't know that it is a fact that there have been outbreaks traced to undocumented aliens in the catch and release program. Vaccinating (which may be happening in those centers) also doesn't help if you are already infected.

Well, that seems reasonable if that is all it is. I think such requirements have been on the books for a long time but maybe they closed the loophole about being able to sign something saying you object to it or some such. As it was the peer pressure (and common sense) meant most people did. As long as 29 out of 30 kids in the classroom are vaccinated, the 30th is not a risk, nor is he at risk. It is when 28 out of 30 are that there is a problem.

Vaccines are a firewall for epidemics. They slow the rate of the spread because vaccines work more often than not and each one it worked in is one less carrier and that cuts the math exponentially.

The figure usually quoted for "herd immunity" to be effective is a 92% vaccination rate. For measles at least, the US is below this. Hence the fucking disaster that started at Disneyland last year.

I didn't know the number. I am sure that sounds right. The thing that is sad about all the bad science, is that the possible danger to a child from say measles far outweighs the risk of autism (which is junk science filled with anecdotal ideas)

I get why this messes with easily mislead parents. No parent wants to have a less than perfect child. When your child has downs or autism or whatever, it is much easier on the psyche to pretend it was something other than the dumb luck of your own genes in combination with your partner. Makes it "not your fault." Not that it is the parents fault but it probably feels like it.

I'd like Andrew Wakefield set on fire then pissed on so he doesn't burn to death too quickly. Then set on fire again.

Is that the autism is caused by vaccination guy? In which case, I concur.
