Has anyone else watched or read 50 shades of Grey?

I'm a 23 year old female, have always been a pretty upfront, stubborn type, and have a low sex drive. I read the 50 shades of grey series though, and for almost three weeks all I could think about was meeting a man who could control me, and also had the means to do it with. I've been wet for a good six hours after watching the movie today, and am curious if others react the same way.

I get extremely turned on at the idea of a man taking charge, and telling me when I can orgasm. This isn't typical for me, and I feel as if I may have just discovered a side to my sexuality I have never unleashed before.

Has anyone else had such a reaction to the books or movies?

You must like poor writing. Couldn't be bothered with the movie either.

My reaction to the book was a bit more volatile - like I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room but that's because if I had to read "murmur", "whisper," "oh my," or about her biting her lip one more time I thought my head would explode. As for the movie, I just can't even go there after the book.

But the soundtrack is good. So I'll give it that.

And no Kindles were harmed during the reading of the book or the posting of this response.

I have heard so consistently about how insipid it was that I knew better than to start it. Given how many women have read it, I thought maybe I should scan it.

The Reality rarely lives up to the fantasy. Stick to reading about it in books and find somebody that loves you.

You're right. I tried to watch the movie after finding Vault's amazing soundtrack on youtube.
But the movie was so lackluster I couldn't finish watching it. She's a good actress but no chemistry between them

These songs were cool :

Jamie Dornan was way better as Paul Spector.

I don't know ..He did nothing for me even though I usually go for his type.
Hate to talk trash about actors, but he was so plain… no sex appeal.
and irish guys usually have it…

I saw the movie...

It played like an episode of Red Shoe Diaries.

The dialog was vapid at best. The scenes were incomplete in my opinion and the story was predictable 10 minutes into the movie.

I kept expecting David Ducovney(sp?) to come out with the fucking dog and give one of those little monologues at the end.

indeed…
leaving aside the whole stupid thing about the hot'n complex and wounded but kind billionaire thingy… Does that thing actually exist?
and why can't we have a book about a hot janitor ..or a regular guy?

Wow, Red Show Diaries - man, you're pulling out the old school stuff! Some people around here are probably like wtf is that????

I will admit I liked the FIRST Red Shoe Diaries (like the pilot episode), but other than that they were all lame. And seriously, what was up with the dog?

Andrew Blake and Zalman King.. Quintessential late 80s early 90s porn.. Yeah it dates me a little bit..

I read the first two chapters. I was cringing the entire time. It's a Harlequin romance with alpha bdsm thrown in for the 21st century.

yes, I read some of it on ScribD and same
But I also wonder & ask (since you're temporarily moonlighting here from the Author's forum):

How come these mediocre books like 50 Shades of grey and Divergent (although loved the movie - talk about hot leading actor)sold in Million copies?

I comment on the AH at times because I'm a volunteer editor and some of the threads interest me. I've written a few things, but I'm not at the point of submitting anything.

Sex sells? Nothing new there. What is new is crappy writing not being edited.

I haven't read Divergent. Isn't that a dystopian YA similar to the Hunger Games? I read the Hunger Games. I thought the writing and editing were good. No cringing.

Yes, Divergent is a dystopian YA novel similar to Hunger Games. Pretty much anything of that genre is going to sell right now. And Divergent was marketed to a different crowd that 50 Shades, thank goodness! I mean I hope high schoolers weren't reading 50 Shades ;) (Although I know plenty of adults who did read Divergent.)

Yes it is.. in a slightly different fashion than Hunger Games but more or less the same basic premise. World has gone to shit. Society is controlled by a ruling faction. Everyone is made to conform "for the good of society" and individuality is taboo..

And you can probably figure out where it goes from there...

Granted I only saw the movie so I have no judgment on the book.

Hunger Games was a masterpiece in the dystopian genre , indeed.

But, although Divergent was quite similar, it hardly measured up. Nevertheless, it sold 10 times as many copies when you consider time period etc. Must be something in it which 16 y.o.s (age of the main protagonist) find appealing.
(in saying that, the author was only 21 when she wrote it, she will make a great actor)

The movie Divergent was produced by Neil Burger. I loved everything about it, and I was surprised to see all those poor reviews.

Love that you appreciated the movie.
Neil Burger did such a good job - adapting a v. mediocre book tw. an enjoyable movie.
And - despite the critics comments- the movie does have more layers to it : ie re transitioning to adulthood or a changing society. I watched Neil Burger, Theo James (who also has a degree in philosophy) and Ashley Judd's commentaries which were great.

My main problem is I feel that the genre is so formula these days that just about all of them follow the same basic story line.. It gets kinda dull and predictable to me. Plus it is way over done (as in too many of those type of movies are made these days). But the SO likes dystopian based movies so I get to sit through a few more than would be my choice.

Lol - I think you responded to the wrong person. I couldn't stand the movie, but normally once I read the book I loathe the movies ;)
