There are plenty of stories with individuals "discovering" social nudity, groups practicing it, threesomes, foursomes and so on; even a few about people living as nudists (couples, or families), but the ones I enjoy describe the process of getting comfortable being nude. I guess this comes from my own experience not having grown-up with excess casual nudity and "finding my own way" to being body positive, sex positive and somewhat "liberated" when it comes to nudity now.

The story idea is: How much of our own real experience gets woven into our stories, does this make the process of writing easier and how "bold" or comfortable are you with being nude?

To me, much of my thinking is still fantasy, still "edgy" and socially forward, because I do love being nude and WOULD do it all the time, anywhere if people were more accepting of it. This does not need to be sexual either because I strongly regard nudity as sensual or "sensory" and pleasant. As a man, I can be aroused in my mind without being obviously aroused in my appearance SOME OF the time; this got easier as I have gotten older. However, boldly telling people about the pleasure of simple nudity is in and of itself sexually rewarding to me! I want to encourage others to view nudity as safe, bold, sexy and STILL generally harmless, but understand attitudes on this vary hugely for many, many reasons. Family upbringing, religious education, ideological devotion of one form or another and (simple, basic) lack of a positive self-image all influence how nudity is perceived.

What "practices" can be described in stories to make casual nudity more fun, more positive, more enjoyable and less of a "hang-up" for readers? (granted, I may be asking the wrong crowd about having fun or getting comfortable with nudity) How have your own attitudes towards nudity in general and how you feel about your body changed over the years? (guys & ladies)

Is nudity and more specifically nude sexuality still a "for the bedroom" only thing for you?

I know there are quite a few questions wrapped up in this post, so I will come back and participate on it for sure! I would love to know if the characters you write about are more bold than you yourself in their nudity, or if you are the "wild nude monkey" who often dials the characters' attitudes back in the story?

Many thanks in advance! I hope this topic is engaging!

I don't get nude; I get naked. It's either sexual or why bother? with me. In a week a Nude Day writing contest starts here. You might enjoy reading the various approaches that will be taken to it.

I have nothing in common with the characters I write. And I never will.

I also have zero experience with any of the topics I write about.

Basically, I'm really boring in real life.

To me, writing a hot sex story is exactly like a crime author writing an thriller. It's made-up for the sake of entertainment.

Do I want to experience any of the things I write about? No. But I think it's hot seeing a certain character type being thrust into an unusual & unique sexual experience, and in the process, receiving a mind blowing orgasm. Afterwards, that character won't be the same again. That' what writing an erotic story is all about, in my opinion.

In America, public nudity is taboo. I like to write about accidental or forced nudity because it creates a dilemma for the character - assuming the character is an uptight American. I find naturist nudity incredibly boring because there's no conflict. It just is.

Back in the late 60's/early 70s the hippie community I was involved with was into nudity, and so was I. Later, in the mid-80's, when I was making a living playing in bar bands, there was an active after hours naked pool party scene. Here in Arizona, the heat affords us great opportunities for that sort of thing. My favorite moment was watching a model-gorgeous skinny blonde waitress we'd been lusting over for months finally shed her clothes by the pool. My other favorite moment was getting fondled in the pool by a different waitress I'd been lusting after. Unfortunately, she had a boyfriend more important than me, but it was still fun. Yet another favorite moment was when my GF's naughty sister gave me a brief underwater BJ in a hot tub. GF was into sharing. It was an interesting time - till she got pregnant by another man, which sort of burst my love bubble.

But, like I said, when everyone's naked, (and there's no surrepticious sex going on) there's no "story". One person naked in a crowd of fully dressed people - now that's a story.

In my younger days, nudity was no big deal. These days our unclothed bodies are not quite so attractive as we once thought that they were. Oh well. :)

I think it's a tad more confused. When you bare your body, you are in the nude and, also naked.

I accept 'nude' has been hijacked by the fashion houses as a color but the etymology of the three words is intertwined.

'Nudism' can never be 'Nakedism'.

Tee Hee.
I agree. I'm slowly sliding down the slippery slope - but he still thinks I'm OK. Prolly the cooking helps.

Excellent observations!

Thanks everyone! I knew there would be a few inputs or stories to relate. I agree with many of the erotic scenarios being purely fantasy because many are impractical and illegal, and in my experience humans are the worst at keeping secrets (big or small)!

I hate to say this, bu-u-ut...

Hollywood and American literature (particularly) unfortunately has had so much influence over what people 'think' is 'normal' that there are so many dimensions entirely missing from certain matters.

If you take the notable movie 'Logan's Run' for example - it contains the clever portrayal of some theoretical future/futuristic society in which the population's age is limited by enforced terminations. As you know, the society depicted has become openly and outwardly amoral due to the per capita increase in material access (according to the story).

The movie pushes boundaries of the day and shows the sex partners (and you can more or less take it as a given from the movie context) virtually nude - but you can assume that it is intended for you to think that 'in fact' in the fictional society described (beyond what they were allowed to depict in the film) they would be completely naked in many instances.

But then, typically, the narrative or storyline goes into the usual and typical 'conflict' scenarios and thereby avoids looking at any deeper matters - even though at the time, this film was regarded as highly groundbreaking.

It is not though.

If you want to REALLY look at people in groups being naked together, then you have to go beyond the simple-minded usual thinking and start to consider erogenous zones and how advanced people are going thinking about these things and how they are going to use them to enhance their living or their experience of life and what the possibilities and potentials are.

Ordinary society is too locked into Ego-Id-Superego dogma to realize what is available to intelligent life.

Yes one of the 'breakout' areas is sc-fi literature, where conceptualizers can start to think about truly avant garde ideas. Cosplay is the flow-on venue in which real people as groups start to contemplate the extraordinary. But erotica literature is the number one field where more developed sophisticated sexual consciousnesses may be exposed.

There are not too many real people in groups, even small groups, that will cope with very advanced socio-sexual ideas in any kind of stable or consistent way. I don't believe the 'swinger' provides that venue either because they are all usually looking for a very fundamental, or let's say, basic - kind of sexualism.

Wow! This totally blew my mind. I couldn't let this go without commenting. I could never write a story unless inspired and I'm inspired by seeing, watching, and doing all that I write about when writing my stories.

I have everything in common with every character I write. I am them and they are me. In essence we are one in the same. There are parts of me in every story that I write.

My goal in character development is to breathe life into my characters until they emerge from the page to stand behind my chair and whisper in my ear what I should write next. After a while, I just hand them the keyboard and let them write their own damn story.

Being that I've never had anal sex, am too claustrophobic to experience bondage, am not gay or lesbian, don't have any fetishes, or sexual toys, and am not a cross dresser, I can write in all of these categories, et al, because I develop my characters. It's by seeing through my characters' eyes that I write their stories.

Granted, being in the swinging lifestyle with my ex for a few years has opened my eyes and enlightened me sexually. For those who were never in the swinging lifestyle, I recommend it. Once you've swung with other couples, what you thought was sexually arousing before will make you will see it as immature foolishness.

There's nothing that anyone can say or do that can shock me. If I haven't see it all, I've done it all. Already been there, I've done that. The only thing that I find disgusting is what Liz did in my true stories, Confessions of a Porn Star story when she agreed to immerse herself up to her neck in a barrel of shit and have men pee and cum on her.

That's just gross but true. She actually did that. I take my hat off to her because I could never do that.

I don't write anything that I don't know, haven't seen, have first hand knowledge, or have experienced myself. Granted I take creative license with some things by embellishing them to make them more erotically interesting but I can't even imagine writing a story where I've never personally experienced much of what I'm writing.

I suppose many writers write about things that they've never done such as Gene Roddenberry when he wrote Star Trek and JK Rowling when she wrote Harry Potter but I stick to writing what I know.

A lady with no clothes is naked and may also be nude. A lady wearing only garter belt, tall nylons and stiletto heels is nude, not just naked.

I was just watching a stupid show about stupid Vogue magazine and saw Nastasja Kinski without clothes with a live python around her and licking her ear.

Weird.

Looked weird to me. But supposedly fashion'able.'

Munroe wearing just Chanel No 5 would be... ultra swathed?

Fucking words and terms...

I think pop fashion and Hollywood have hijacked ideas like 'nude' and 'naked' and 'nudity.'

Like they do just about everything else.

I love getting nude. Going to the Korean Spa and sharing a bathtub with friends is so much fun to me. I just wish they were co-ed.

One of the most enjoyable depictions of 'nudist camp' I've ever read is a very long story by Nick Scipio entitled Summer Camp. I think he posted a few early "prequel" chapters here on Lit, but you can find everything on his website (search on the capitalized words above).

Fair warning: For some it can become a highly addictive set of stories. He hasn't finished it, yet, and even some of the faithful followers have stopped carrying quite as bright a torch as they used to. There have been verrrrry long gaps between the most recent chapters, as Real Life (tm) has intruded. The first book, though, has some excellent descriptions of nudism as a real and routine way of life.

That was how I first got into erotica! I still remember his stories...
