They shouldn't feel bad. 99% of the male population would fail. My issue is that they shouldn't be there in the first place. Getting a slot for this school is hard even if you are the most high speed individual in your grunt unit. The guys that do make it are already overachievers. I've seen marine recon idiots fail out. These ladies never even passed the minimum qualifications to get a shot.

There is a grain of truth in what you said about intelligence, there are many army occupational specialties that require higher GT scores than Ranger School. So what?

Rangers are noted for their dogged persistence under grueling physical conditions under great stress. And that is how they are intended to be used. They operate in small units where the "weakest link" doctrine applies. 'Mental toughness' is required.

It's not just some 'merit badge' that you have to achieve to advance your military career as some politicians and other loud mouthed activists would like the general public to believe. Although I will readily admit that having as many 'merit badges' as possible in the combat arms is generally beneficial to ones career, especially commissioned officers. Obviously that implies that not having those 'merit badges' is a detriment to career advancement.

That being said, there is no excuse to relax requirements for no other reason than political brownie points. The job is dirty, grueling, and dangerous.....so the training should be as well.

Speaking from a business point of view, with the resources of time and money spent to train, those men and women become high-end valuable capital assets. Just as you wouldn't under-spec a piece of equipment purchased for a specific job, you shouldn't relax standards for that job. Why would you buy a 3/4 ton pick up truck when what you really need is a Cat Triple 7?

As far as the women go, there are women who can, and will, meet the existing standards, and ultimately it's insulting to them to require them to do less.
