You are shrewd enough to recognize this is not "true misogyny." What we have here is not bad behavior caused by poor socialization. It's a pathology and the misogyny is a symptom of a psychosis which came on in mid life. Whether getting kicked out of his home and separated from his wife and family brought this on, or his symptoms are why she kicked him out, is hard to say.
