Finally found a site for this sort of thing! I've been using Amazon "other people who bought this also bought this" lists and GoodReads lists to trawl for similar content to my favorite books and movies for years. Also, rarely, Tv tropes to look up books with similar tropes, because oftentimes, I get attached to an idea and how it is presented but that book is done, it's over now, no more, sort of thing. Thank goodness there's a place that does it easier.

That's specifically a reference to the franchise Alien, though? Like, I can see them messing around with a stapler and finding the mechanism that does that and being reminded of the Xenomorph anatomy and thinking it'd make a silly video.

Ahh, see I will admit that I have avoided that entire franchise of film - nothing against Sigourney Weaver but simply because I was four when it originally came out and then the reference to in Spaceballs ruined any hope of me ever being able to take it seriously. Yes, I know...terrible reason to avoid it but there you have it.

And now I am glad I wondered (out loud) about the person behind the video. And damn it, is it 7:30 yet?

Not at all! I have only caught snippets of the movies myself over the years and the first movie I watched the entire way through was Revelations? The one that had Winona Ryder as a robot and Ron Perlman, who is sex. It's my fav because of the scene with the aliens in the containment communicating with each other and the two kill the third one to make it's acid blood sear through the floor and they escape. I was told to watch the other films but I found the first incredibly underwhelming and kind of boring. I get it, things are classics because of making genuine strides for their time period but it just didn't hold up to the test of time and relevance for me. So, I never watched any others.

Heh, always puzzles me when people say something like this. It's like saying one could never watch a Western again after Blazing Saddles, or see a Star Wars movie after the Robot Chicken specials, or watch a spy movie after they made Get Smart. Any halfway-decent content stays compelling whether it's inspired parodies or not, surely.

I love them.

Not just because they're funny, but because they're funny for the appropriate amount of time. There are too many comedians who take too much time and I think they should watch Robot Chicken to edit down. If it's a 3 second joke, it's a 3 second joke.

For non nerds...there are books in the Elder Scrolls series - Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. The Lusty Argonian Maid has been a staple.

Why read books? Because some give skill points to your character and some are just funny and all are lore.

Noooo! What I meant by "experiencing it yourself" was it'd be better if you actually hopped on a plane and go to New Zealand and experience it first hand. The next best thing is books and movies from NZ. Books and movies that paint a picture of how Maori people roll. The culture, a bit of background. I didn't mean do not to look the words up if you need to along the way lol.

A better experience than just a few sentences and a quick translation, you know? That's what I meant by pulling the fun out of it.
