Has anyone here published and been paid?

Hello All:

I have been a member of Literotica for some time. I have recently been working on two separate works, and have been thinking about a third. At this time, I have only placed one on this site. The other one is very much a work in progress and I have an editor or two looking at it before I put it up.

The reason I am asking this question is that I think/hope that these stories might actually be good enough for someone to think about paying for them. I know that sounds ridiculous when you take into account that I have nowhere NEAR the output of literally dozens of other authors on this site, and that my one story on here is in some ways a diatribe against modern Christianity, set against a pseudo-pagan fantasy where a young priest is happily boinking his own mother. But the first story is running away with me, and the second, which I am in love with, is nearly 50 pages along in MW, and I am not nearly to the point where I am thinking about a way to wrap it up.

So does anyone have any experience getting stories published for pay? Obviously this would have to be in some sort of e-book format. What publishers are out there? How does the process go?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Glaze

Hey welcome to the AH

Many here have published for money. You can either try to find a publisher and see if they will accept your work or you can self publish which will guarantee it gets up there for sale, you just have to do all the little things publishers can help with

There are lots of venues to sell on especially because you're not doing anything that's taboo

Amazon is the biggest and then Smashwords and if you publish with SW they will put the book on sites like Barnes and noble and apple and kobo and several others. There is also All romance e-books and smaller sites like Fiction4all and carnal Pleasures.

I've written 5 e-Books with three different publishers. After receiving modest advances of around $300 each, they disappeared after selling the books on Amazon and Barnes & Nobel. I have no idea and no way to find out how much they earned on my e-Books.

I earn more money, thousands of times more going direct to the fan and writing custom, creative, personalized stories.

Most fans don't even want me to write them a story but will still send me all sorts of gifts.

I suggest you don't even consider e-Book publisher and look for mainstream publishers. E-Book publishers have no motivation to do a proper accounting of your royalties.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies.

Zeb, were you being honest or just yanking my chain? I would appreciate your input.

SJP, do you think there is a mainstream publisher who will publish a book where incest is a prominent theme? Even if it is consensual?

Lovecraft, the same question applies. Taboo is a major theme in most of my stories. Will Amazon or one of the other houses even accept an e-book with those themes?

No major publisher will touch incest, at least not hardcore incest in fact big time publishers really don't even touch erotica, or at least not hardcore Lit style (remember 50 shades was romance/fiction Random house did not bill it as erotica.

As for self publishing Smaswords will accept incest and Barnes and Noble will as well, Carnal Pleasures does, but right now those are the only ones I know of.

A couple of people have made reference to Carnal Pleasures. I haven't been able to find anything. Could that actually be Carnal Desires?

Are there Lit. writers being paid to publish erotica? Yep.

There's a stick thread at the top of this forum where some report their published works. At least some of these are making a profit off it--few, if any, a living wage, of course.

I worked on, and got paid for Screenplay editing work in, the Oscar-nominated and Actor Oscar-winning mainstream movie 'Year of Living Dangerously' - if that counts among all the geniuses here.

And I have been paid very very large sums of money for non-fiction writing.

Well, its a start, I mean it doesn't compare to the lucrative living I've made from My Friend's Hot Mom series....but I'll give you a little credit;)

I am moderately experienced with e-book publishing, having eight works published. I can probably help you. Do no expect great rewards. I have made $27 last quarter. As with any publishing, it is the promotion that counts. If you have vast facebook and other social media connections you can promote your own book, but yo have to be unashamed about what you write. My publications include two works that are non-erotic, but I have sold only one. PM me for further info.
