Obama Just Gave Our Nation’s Veterans a BIG Slap in the Face for Armed Forces Day
From the Conservative Tribune: America’s veterans are the backbone of our democracy, men and women who have risked (and given) their lives in places with names like Tripoli, Guadalcanal and Fallujah.
On Armed Forces Day, a holiday that honors soldiers both retired and in uniform, it’s standard for the president to help participate in the festivities. In the Obama White House, though, things are a little different.
This Armed Forces Day, the president found himself just a little too busy to attend, or to even send out anything more than a desultory statement on Friday.
In case you were wondering, he did manage to craft a much longer official statement for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. Sorry, men and women who’ve given their lives to protect democracy — the real heroes are in the Castro!
As a male who suffers from cisgender privilege, I suppose I shouldn’t take anything away from the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. However, when crafting the president’s public schedule on the week of May 10-16, don’t you think someone might have noticed that Armed Forces Day is a little bit more important than that?
Who looks at the calendar, sees Armed Forces Day and International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia both falling on the same day, points to the latter and says, “We really need to focus on that one?”
The president has misplaced his priorities before. In January, he was too busy to fly to France for the massive rally in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo shootings, but found time to host the world-champion San Antonio Spurs that Monday.
He sent delegations to the funerals of Freddie Gray and Mike Brown while neglecting to send one to that of the highest-ranking victim of the war in Afghanistan, Maj. Gen. Harold Greene.
However, neglecting our veterans to score points for political correctness? No wonder so many of them distrust this administration
