I have cancer too

MRI's are different, CT's are like donut holes that you go through. Just saying...

It's about not moving and putting the discomfort somewhere else. That's the only way I could possible go to work and maintain my sanity. I'll be fine as long as the O2 tanks are strapped down.

My advice is to wear your own clothes, nothing with metal in it. I wear sweats, and a t-shirt. As for socks, they will give you those ones with grippers on the bottom. Bring the music you like to hear. I usually wear mittens too, because my hands get cold.
If you get claustrophobia, don't open your eyes once inside. The new one I was in was much cooler, more room inside, and it was lit up evenly inside.
Robotic ones are a bit stranger.

If you are lucky they will let you go in feet first. If you are getting contrast, putting your arms above your head works well, if you are comfortable in that position.

4.1 cm stage 1 clear cell tumor on my left kidney. No spreading evident. I chose to have it blasted by radio frequency ablation, if I am eligible. I guess that means they stick a small speaker in it and play really loud Beastie Boys or something.

Stage one is a very good thing towards your prognosis!! You caught it early and that's a good thing!! No spreading evident, can be another good thing!! Kidney tumor is also a good thing from the perspective of, we can survive if necessary, with only one kidney!! We don't do well as with other organs.....
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU, AND AS A CANCER SURVIVOR MYSELF, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Just a walk in the park.

Hang in there as the treatment can be rough. Don't forget to take care of yourself first. Nothing else is as important than making it through this mess.

I spent a little time today looking through all the year to date ct images of my innards and I have decided that my insides look a lot like head cheese.

I'm on DVD.

Best of luck with your change in providers.
Mayo and CCF are both excellent choices. I hope one touches your heart.

Big day tomorrow. I meet with a new group of radiology oncologists and the cancer review team in charge of my case. That's right, I have a team. That's a big improvement from the let's toss a coin in the air approach I was living under. Hopeful but guarded. They may choose to try and fry the tumor again...which I'm not crazy about. Or who knows what. I hope to hell they don't want another biopsy. That would be all the way back to square one. Downside, it's in another city.

So, 13 months from discovery, start over. It's really wearing on me. I've aged a lot over the last year. Constant stress. They offered counseling and nutritional (???) advice. This isn't a fruits and vegetables kind of problem. I said no. Just fucking fix me and the other stuff should take care of itself. In time.

Needless to say, I'm edgy. More than usual.

Sleep will be difficult.

Nutritional advice as in a dietician, could come in handy if you do chemo and sometimes radiation. Those things can knock out basic nutrients and you need them to heal.

Take a deep breath, a team is good.

I had asparagus tonight. I'll probably go into remission- goes right to the kidneys.

A sparglebomb.

Clean scan today, three years cancer free now. There is plenty of reason for hope if you have a good team of surgeon, oncologist and radiologist.

I got really tired of being the one to make the decisions. I'm not really qualified. Good news on your scan...you can skip the asparagus for today.

You're probably going to get through this successfully. I fully understand the fear and doubt and uncertainty that you have to live with until you get the all clear.

Wait until you are passing out from electrolyte imbalances even though you are eating just as you always have because the drugs or whatever are knocking out stuff you need.

I don't anticipate chemotherapy. I'm waiting for someone to finally get
around to deciding to cut the damn thing out of me before it goes rogue.

That will be my vote.

My two friends who have survived kidney cancer for over 5 yrs now, had the kidney removed with the tumor in it.

That's one way to go. With a family history of bad kidneys, the odds I end up on dialysis are pretty high. My old doc didn't even suggest a partial nephrectomy. My new doc said he could pluck it out in 20 minutes but doesn't want to take the whole thing if it can be avoided.

I could probably go 6 months being hooked up to a machine before I blew my brains out.
