Couple found guilty of having sex on Florida beach

Maybe because I am an Atheist my morals are questionable but I am thinking this is an offense worthy of a $100 ticket and maybe some bullshit community service, not 15 years and registering as sex offenders.

So I ask you - is this Justice? is it just?

Would probably depend on the circumstances. Was in broad daylight on a crowded beach in front of the kiddies and all? Night time on a deserted beach where they thought none would see? Could be more to the story.. However, it does sound like an excessively harsh sentence. 15 years? Gotta be more involved. As for being a sex offender for life now, one gets that for pissing behind a bush or whatever and getting caught. Which is also unduly harsh..

Video played in the courtroom during the 1- 1/2-day-long trial showed Alvarez moving on top of Caballero in a sexual manner in broad daylight. Witnesses testified that a 3-year-old girl saw them.

how do you get 15 years for something like this though.. Soon we will be Saudi Arabia and we can not kiss or show affection in public. It annoys me that couples would have sex in daylight and I wish they would not.. But to give him 15 years for this.. No that is way too extreme and stupid.. Not like he was raping her or anything. Maybe the prosecutor needed so fluff his record for some reason.

Since no one saw genitals or penetration, they have basically been convicted of the accusers, prosecutors and "witnesses" having dirty minds.

I'd appeal, and go for a change of venue.

Then I'd have transportation arranged by the side door so that if found innocent, I could get the hell out of that state before they could trump up some new charge.

This boils down to "we thought they did it, so that makes them guilty".

I took a call once with an old blue-nose lady reporting a couple for having public sex in a restaurant. The guy was giving the Heimlich maneuver to his wife, who was choking on a chunk of steak. Several people saw the hunk of meat pop out of the choking victim's mouth. But that didn't fool this old biddy one bit. She knew what she knew, by gum.

I was actually expecting her to file an I.A. complaint against me for not arresting them. So I met with my Sgt. to let him know, and that was pretty much the end of it.

This whole thing seems equally crazy to me.
