The crime rate has been going down because the prison population has been going up.

We should put more criminals into prisons. We should keep them there until they are too old to commit crimes. We should treat them with exquisite cruelty in order to deter others.

I think we should castrate convicts in maximum security prisons. That would make them easier to manage. It would keep them from spreading their crime genes if they lived long enough to be released. Of course, in my kind of prison most would die from bad treatment.

IMO prison is a ridiculous over-reaction to plenty of so-called crimes anyway, so the fewer in jail the better. Unfortunately they're increasingly outsourcing prison management which will mean the more prisoners the more potential profit

We have laws already for "under the influence." They're already enforced.

Just don't arrest the guy walking down the street high. Yes, arrest the surgeon and the bus driver, if they did something already covered by a law like murder or mayhem or criminal negligence.
