It is fun playing with filters. They can make a dramatic change in a photograph.

I recently discovered some great free software called paint.net aka PdN http://www.getpaint.net/index.html. It is open source freeware and the filters are free plugins. They have hundreds of plugin filters they call Effects. Really cool stuff.
