The shocking footage of South Carolina man Walter Scott being shot in the back as he ran from North Charleston police officer Michael Slager is once again putting attention on the large number of Americans who are killed by police.

But how big is that number, exactly? Several news organizations have tried to answer that question lately, and have all come up with the answer that it’s a very difficult figure to pin down because of the way the FBI and other agencies report data.

One thing we can say with some level of certainty: More black Americans were killed by police in 2014 than were killed in the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001.

They only count the darkies killed on 9-11, so it isn't as bad as your first thought.

First, I would like to point out that I place very little confidence on Huffington Post. For one thing, according to the article being cited, the number was 172, not 200, and the majority were not fatal. More important, they make no distinction between justified shootings and those that are not justified. The shooting described in the OP was obviously not, and that cop belongs in prison. I am certain some of the others involved shootouts between armed criminals and cops, with both sides taking casualties; however, that is not mentioned.

Second, I wonder why the cops are so much more accurate when shooting at white suspects. A much higher percentage of those shootings were fatal.
