The Official Author's Hangout 2015 April Fool's Day Contest Support Thread

My third entry as oggbashan isn't going to make it. The story has stalled and family matters take precedence today and more importantly tomorrow - youngest grandchild's birthday. :)

Maybe it can be a Summer Lovin' entry?

Any stories like that in the contest this time?

I think mine's more like that. Even though there are several deceptions, none of them are pranks. Most of them are never meant to be discovered and none are mean-spirited, even if the execution is a little crazy.

Most April Fools' stories will feature practical jokes,

Has that panned out for this contest? Mine doesn't do this. This is an erotica site, so I went more with the "fools in love" theme. I thought others might as well. It's awfully hard to write a practical joke story for Literotica, I think, with the title, slug, and tag needs.

Robertreams posted an April Fools story today that didn't make the top of the "New" list and hasn't appeared on the contest story list so far. Wonder if it was meant for the contest and fell in the cracks.

I think of April Fools' jokes as practical jokes, but I suppose other sorts are quite possible. As I mentioned, mine is modeled on the fabliau, which is a sort of elaborate dirty joke involving trickery--and the trick is sexual more often than not. So: a jealous husband is cuckolded before his very eyes, then tricked into believing it was all innocent; a woman is tricked into having sex with someone; a wife runs up an enormous debt and when confronted about it declares that she will pay it off in bed.

My story didn't hint at the trick in the title or description, but just worked up to it. How well has it done? Impossible to say till the final sweeps are run. It's nowhere near contest-winning territory, but it seems to have been pretty well received, to judge from comments (except for my Standard Troll, whom I always delete).

Well yes, but the contest is titled "April Fools" Day," isn't it, not "April Fool's Jokes"?--so, more latitude.

Long-time reader, first time poster

I've written for other sites, but this is my first time dipping my toe into the waters of Literotica.com as a writer (despite reading and appreciating some of the people here for some years). Hello, world.

Finally submitted my first story, which is also an April Fool's contest entry. I'm afraid I may be a little late as the story's a bit formatting-dependent and I had to submit it as an .odt -- but it was 24,000 words and even getting it cleaned up by this date was quite a gallop. If it's not in time for the contest I still hope folks enjoy it as a story, anyway. Good luck to all the entrants here, I'm just about to check out the other posted entries for the first time.

If you've already submitted it ( and it doesn't get rejected ) then you're fine. The deadline is midnight EST tomorrow, and even that isn't hard and fast. If the story hits the queue before Laurel processes the next day's stories, it will still get in.

Which also means that if there's a problem, you have time to resubmit before the deadline, too.

BTW, even though the submissions guidelines say otherwise, you can submit via copy/paste or uploading a text file and use html tags for italics to handle the formatting. Just type them directly into the document anywhere you want <i>italic text</i> to appear.

Thanks mate, I was wondering about that. Kind of wish I'd tried using HTML tags sooner, it would've been an easier way to go. Ah well.

Be warned, though, the number of allowed tags is limited: i b br blockquote, center, perhaps a few more. Other tags will get your story rejected. None of those ultra-useful span tags with css in them.

( Pardon my multiple personality disorder LOL I'm testing some new code on my website, and my three pen names are logged in under the different browsers I'm using. Whichever one I'm on when I blink in here is the one I'm posting with. )

No problem :) You'll know next time, and it does make the whole process a lot easier.

Plus, you can preview the story before final submission and make last minute corrections. You'll probably be amazed at how many silly mistakes you end up catching when you read something one last time in the preview window.

And then some still get through.

I've been reading stories here since Literotica started. I've been writing stories since 2007 as BostonFictionWriter, as PositiveThinker, CarBuffStuff, WmForrester, AndTheEnd, SuperHeroRalph, and now under my real name, SusanJillParker.

In 8 years of writing stories, this is the first time that I did not enter a story in a contest. I had 30 stories in a Valentine's contest one year, back in 2010, as AndTheEnd, I think. Yet, the story that I wrote for the April Fools' Day contest got out of hand and took on a life of it's own.

Presently, the story, titled Wife's Mom, Sister & Best Friend is 85,000 words. Up until it morphed into something else, I was going to post it as one story but now it's just too big. I would have had about 26 Literotica pages. I figure it will be about 90,000 words when completed.

The first two chapters have already posted and the next three chapters are scheduled to post.

It's funny how just from a phrase, "This is awkward," that I was able to turn three words into a 90,000 word story. Wow! It just blows my mind.

I wish you all luck in the contest. I've decided not to enter any more contests. If they ever have another Survivor contest with prize money then...game on. Until then, goodbye. I'll just be writing my stories for my personal pleasure.

Well, we did know, Freddie, that, despite all your disclaimers (including that name and gender game thing) that you approached the contests as you did because you were in it for the money--and any way you could get it (which is pretty much way they aren't giving money for the Survivor's contest anymore). But it's great you got a 90,000-word story out of April Fools. I would have bet that, if anyone could get that much out of April Fooling, it probably would be you, though. :)

Well good luck with your story that turned into a series. Sometimes all it takes is a few words. For me its usually an image.

I woke up one morning with an image of a sister seducing her brother and I wondered, what realistically could get a sister to want her brother?

That turned into a year and a half and 900k of my SWB series.

Positive Thinker was the best ID, freddie.

I submitted a new one last night and it posted this morning. Hard to believe it already had 6986 reads and 305 votes and 9 comments. Most are saying I rushed it and it's just around 4.00. It's in loving wifes.

My other story is in romance with 17669 reads and 815 votes with 18 comments. I have't seen any kind of a hoover yet. First story was sumitted on 3-3-15.

51 stories isn't bad considering how slow it started.

It also took right up until two days afo to spot the obvious winner

At least readers are still reading the new stories. As I mentioned mine came out earlier today and it's been read more than my story that came out on 3-03-15. Both are contest stories, neither will place especially this one.my results so far at 3:30 pm est are:
score 3.98 votes 931 reads 20758 Loving Wives
Public Comments: 41 It's was fun writing for the contest and quick posting. Best of luck to all who entered.

That is some crazy exposure: 931 votes and 41 comments in one day?! I'm in the 400 vote range now after many weeks but that is unprecendended for me so I can't complain. At least it's nice to be able to insulate your score from the 1-bombs by having a high vote count. Loving Wives, tough crowd, but they must have a pretty big readership?

This is my first time entering a contest here. My entry is at over 18,000 reads and 235 votes after ten days, which seemed great to me at first. Then I began looking through the other entries, and i was surprised when i saw how many more readers and votes some of the categories draw.
