Why do liberals care about so-called "revenge porn"?

Its interesting that liberals seem to be the ones in a hissy fit over so-called "revenge porn," which not having followed this too closely, is apparently posting nudie or other sexual pics of former relationship partners on the internet after a breakup or divorce.

There is a movement for the government to get involved and pass laws and waste tax payer money to "protect" people from having their nudie pics posted on the internet even if they posed for the pictures consensually and gave them to the other person voluntarily. Why should the government waste a single cent of tax money on this, when the simple solution is to simply not take naked pictures of yourself and give them to someone if you want to be sure they never become public? That's a very good question.

Common sense would tell one that, and most sane people would naturally understand that. However, the liberals and femanists believe that women are too stupid to have common sense, and need liberals to pass laws to "protect" them from meany men. So, this is now a "cause" of the liberal/femanist movement rather than people simply using common sense. If you want to be protect your privacy, don't agree to nudie pics in the first place, keep the government out of it. There are real problems in society for the government to worry about.

The language in most of these laws explicitly exempts photos the subject created. So, you're mostly arguing against a strawmen of these laws.

Because liberals are decent human beings. It really comes down to that.

I'd be very curious what the law defines as photos the subject created. Does that mean he/she was physically holding the camera, was a willing subject? Because if you break up with your ex and post photos of them on the internet there should be legal recourse. The same way there would be if all other manner of things you'd probably have access to for various reasons were made public by you.

I can't tell if this thread is a joke or not. Are you trying to make a funny, RR?

I mean... it's in the title, isn't it? They are called "revenge porn" the implication being that they are putting these photos online as a way to "get back at and humiliate" the ex that trusted them enough at some point in the relationship to allow the photos to be taken. And you can't fathom why that's really disgusting and why on earth people are trying to get laws made to protect them from what is basically, photographic rape - photos of their body, their genitals exposed in an intimate moment, being shared without their consent with people they did not consent to share those photos of themselves with.

And your answer to this, your "solution" supposedly hearkening to "common sense"(although, dare I fucking say, you don't know what that means with how much confusion you're seemingly feeling about this topic) is that nobody should ever take naked pictures of themselves or ever have them taken ever? Really? You know, when most people get into relationships with other people, there is a bond formed based on trust and there isn't this expectation of "when we eventually break up..." Sometimes some relationships are temporary or ephemeral, just for the fun, but most of the time, when people start dating or get married they're not expecting to have to walk away from the person at some point. Your solution to this photo problem, sounds to me like they should always think of the thing ending tomorrow and keep themselves wrapped in a sheet until the day comes when they have to finally split, if it ever does come. What I'm saying is, your concept of relationships doesn't seem to be based on reality or the state of intimate relationships between people in our day and age.

Did you know that sometimes, married couples take photos of sexual nature to spice things up? Oh, but no, okay, they're obviously falling out of line with common sense and should burn the pictures as soon as they are seen or never share any documentation of themselves ever having been naked with their SO or for their SO ever for fear they might get screwed over one day if things don't work out. And that makes sense to you as a solution? That people should just suck it up and live in fear of their spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend to the point they can't even share a sexy photo of themselves while their SO is far away from them?

This thread is a joke, right?

Take a look at yourselves! You are not porn material. Your genitals are bumpy and have pimples. Your asses look like cottage cheese. Your teeth are yellow and your junk is small.

Stop taking naked pics and the revenge porn problem takes care of itself.

Fuck.

lol, nice sarcasm there, pete.

I'm a socialist and my view on it is not to willingly have nudie pics done if you don't want them spread throughout the universe--but if they are taken of you without your knowledge/consent and spread around, the spreadee should pay through the nose and see the inside of a prison cell.

When people trade nude photographs of each other, it implies trust - trust that transcends arguments, annoyances, even breakups. I've created many nude images over the span of my life, and never once have I betrayed a trust. Nor have those whom I've known.

Revenge porn says much more about the perpetrator than it does about the victim. At best, it displays a stunning lack of maturity.

But more commonly, it reveals the psychopath.

I'm not a liberal at all, but I think the problem lies in consent to have the pictures posted. When one takes a picture within the confines of one's relationship, there is an implied trust that it is not going to be posted on the Internet.

I don't really know the legal answer to this as I am not a lawyer or anything of the sort, but I really do think it has a lot to do with consent and the intent of the original pictures. I do agree, however, that one must know the risk of taking said pictures. That doesn't mean it's okay for someone to post them without your consent, at least on a moral level. I'm not sure about the legality.

It's not just liberals concerned with revenge porn. It goes to the heart of a person's privacy and giving consent. This is very much a value of true conservatives. There have been remedies for it through civil courts. Criminalizing it though has to be done with great care because it does affect first amendment rights.

For example, revenge porn laws could've kept Anthony Weiner's weiner pics from being revealed. While most have no sympathy for his plight, the pics could've been suppressed by a revenge porn law. A candidate running as squeaky clean could hide behind a revenge porn law. Photos could reveal the candidate is lying about their past. There could even be evidence of a crime in such pics. An uncarefully worded law could criminalize releasing such photos by anyone.

I'm all for stopping what is just an attempt to get revenge or embarrass someone with something that was done privately and in confidence. But we need to make sure such laws are written carefully so that legitimate free speech isn't stifled.

Consent?

Privacy?

After all of the evidence has been presented and all of the released tapes and pics, you would think that human beings are not that fucking stupid, even Liberals, but I guess every person believes themselves immune until they discover their 'mug' shots online...

Then they act like they were mugged.

Then they go full-on conservative and want them some justice because they were dumber than, oh, let's say Renard...

:D

Because there is a difference in me posting pictures of myself because I want to and someone else doing it to hurt me? How can you not understand that?

Remember who you're talking to. Understanding isn't their gig, judging and sneering is.
