Oh, I don't think that it's anything as hard-edged doctrinaire as any of this.

Is there an English translation for that last paragraph, though?

Those of us with a brain understood it perfectly well, Pilot. I guess we know where that leaves you.

My family was always partial to Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It was a sacred event anytime it came on TV.

Most In N Out Burger restaurants have V-ed palm trees planted in front as an homage to the "Big W." Another reason to eat there besides Animal Style fries and Neopolitan shakes.

So, you think you can diagram that last sentence and explain how it makes sense. If so, do it rather than just this empty backbiting.

And I already know where this leaves me. ;)

Curses! I did it. But it won't keep form.

Thanks. I think you got it diagrammed. But I still think the context is nonsense--and said so. That should take care of it, and since what I posted is my opinion, what you posted requires you to see some wisdom in my opinion. :D

I never doubt that your opinion contains some wisdom. That's why you're not on my ignore list. It's the other stuff that comes along with the wisdom I don't always like.

If you liked Airplane there is another movie with the same puns and sight gags, but much lesser known

Top Secret starring a young Val Kilmer.

The first Naked Gun movie was close to as funny as Airplane..

Now any time I see it I think that Nordberg's (OJ Simpson's) death in the beginning was more believable than his trial:rolleyes:

I've seen Top Secret, and all of the Naked Gun movies. :D :rose: BTW Leslie Nielsen was a comedic genius.

Mel Brooks movies are the only ones in my collection to have that distinction so far.

I love Mel Brooks. My favorite is High Anxiety, but I also love The Producers, Young Frankenstein, and History of the World Part I. Didn't like Spaceballs, though. *ducks to avoid thrown tomatoes*

Who would have guessed it would be you who caught my reference?

As to Blazing Saddles, we and our offspring all have copies of it - never need to rent. I've actually been around a campfire with husband and son when they started farting and laughing hysterically.

lol! That's it - I'm gonna go watch it right now.

But for those of you who love silly silly comedies:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1680136/
It's subtitled (unless you understand Danish, in which case you're in luck!). It starts off slowish, but when you get to the bit when he goes into his wife's bedroom - that scene nearly slew us. And from there on it was just hilarious. The next day my stomach muscles actually ached from laughing so hard. :D

In this case I was responding solely to the context, as I was trying to understand it. I don't believe for a nanosecond that opinions are equal--someone's relative knowledge on a given topic doesn't equalize just because they are posting to the Internet; I do believe that the world of Internet discussion boards has duped folks into believing that all opinions are equal (or even useful--which goes to your pulling wisdom out of everyone's stated opinion)--and stating it as some sort of axiom.

I have to say I was always more partial to FatBurger. One of many things I miss about LA.

One of his funniest(because I was partial to the Exorcist) is one people don't mention much and that is Repossessed.

Doesn't mean you don't behave like an obnoxious, condescending douche bag. Because you do.

*Cue up the evil cabal chatter.*

BLASPHEMY!!! Persecute! Stone the heretic!

LOL

Tracking down all of them on VHS in the 90s was a chore. The one that took the longest to get hold of was Twelve Chairs. Not as hard as finding Monty Python in the states, but difficult nonetheless.

The biggest reason I have for buying the Blu-ray copies was so I could take my old DVD copies to work and loan them out to the poor neglected souls who had never even heard of them.

Growing up without History of the World, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein is wrong that must be righted.

Not quite on par with Airplane and Mel Brooks, but the two Hot Shots movies were pretty funny.

Another little known one from 1967 is Who's Minding the Mint? Packed with an all star cast (including Joey Bishop and Milton Berle) and plenty of bad puns and slapstick to keep you laughing constantly for 90 minutes or so.

From 1981 is the infamous illegal cross country car race cult classic Cannonball Run. Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Farr, Jack Elam, Jackie Chan, Mel Tillis, and even Bianca Jagger. With a cast like that, how can it NOT be hilarious?

Cannonball Run is the first time I saw Jackie Chan and the first movie I remember the now too common bloopers running under the end credits. Mainly Dom D giggling as I recall.
But Mel Tillis singing so he doesn't stutter "I can't see shit" (to Terry Bradshaw, not included in the extensive list above) is what always sticks with me.

dear anon. i received your email ref Royal Marines. i would have replied directly, but you didn't have the nuts to furnish me with one.

okay, so, you claim to know several U.S. Navy SEALs? good for you. i would say, with utmost respect for that elite force and no disrespect intended at all, that you still have no concept of the workings of a Royal Marine's mind. the scene i depicted is entirely plausible.

of course, it's true to say the character isn't representative of all Royal Marines, but thrust me, there are nutters in the ranks who'd be up for it.

if you want to gob off in future about something you know little-to-nothing about? drop me an email with a return address. ;)

But...but....if anymouse was limited to only what they knew....you would never hear from them!

works for me. ;)

I was looking through some recent comments and found one on "A Woman's Touch" that started with, "Sooner or later people are going to figure out you're really a woman...."

Not sure about that....I've had my wife convinced I'm a guy for quite some time now...
