Regardless of which one you prefer, it seems as though it played a much more active role in the time of our forefathers.

Discuss.

when people are mature enough to accept responsibility for their own morality, without the need of bribes or threats in an afterlife, they lose the need to worship some godhead. i'd say there's a way to go yet for many.

If god is around he/she is either impotent or a total sicko' sociopath who needs his/her ass kicked.

Either way "gawd" can go fuck itself in the ass with a cactus. I'd rather go to hell and take a shot at running the fuckin' joint than spend eternity on my knees kissing the ass of that neglectful piece of shit.

Ohhh glory be to gawwwwd!

FOR WHAT???

Unfathomable: adj:

1. incapable of being fully explored or understood.

2. impossible to measure the extent of.

We all want a hold in the everlasting gaze, enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway. But underneath the wheels lie the wheels of every cog... Your fickle fascination with an everlasting god.

Kind of.

After Jesus went home only certain people were ...authorized to direct miracles.

After they died it was pretty much praying or asking for one and as usual most of the time it either wasn't in Gods plan or some selfish or ridiculous request like some of the things certain people on this board claim God should do if were real.

Yeah...that's going to get the Holy spirit cranked up!

Dealing with God and having prayers immediately answered is an amazing experience

If you are not one of his people and don't want to be, why should he listen to you?

Most of you would either wave it off as happenstance or luck or crap in your pants.

God's been busy monitoring the masturbation/fornication habits of post-pubescent humans.

Hey, that sexual repression and guilt/shame isn't going to instill itself!

This. ^^^^

I think god is a concept within us all, a self-respect and self-awareness and a deep connection with our core empathy. A balance with the animal principles of being human, our flaws and our strengths, and to recognize that we are all part of a community of survival, the human race. To know what is good for you, to know what choices you need to make that will benefit yourself and enrich your life, to allow yourself the space to live genuinely with yourself and to understand and show compassion for others when weighed against your own personal needs, to bring something to the table that is healthy and beneficial for the whole. I don't like to think of god as a standard or ideal that is right for everyone but an individual core of the spirit, the true love and acceptance of the self, something that through meditation and self-reflection can be reached on an individual basis.

For that reason, I agree, that a lot of people have lost connection with this concept and thus, forgotten their internal "god", their internal self, and rather look outward for acceptance to the group and find themselves lost and alone in a crowd of people who are just as identityless. But I see more and more in small communities a strength growing towards healthy living and realizations, towards empathetic understanding, that through the trials and suffering of others, we're gradually learning who we are. We're getting there and every day presents opportunities to forget and remember anew.

Horsefeathers.

God is a wise old white dude with a zz top beard in a big LaZBoy in the sky.

Blasphemers!

I don't know, as far as I can tell god is as active today as it always was.
People today are claiming as many things as being "an act of god" as they were 2000 and more years ago. Maybe even more today.
So I don't really agree with your premise.

Uh huh, because every one got reported and published on indestructable papyrus.

Ignoring us

God no matter what name he/she is known by regardless of the religion you claim to belong to has ignored us as a people every since Jesus was crucified. Before the crucifixion he was an active part to his people. Now he sits back and watches the people of this world to go to hell in a hand basket. He allows people to starve to death, allows women that are the mother's of nation to be treated like property, to be raped and beaten. God watches as we pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink and supplies us with food and the ground we walk on. God has inflicted us with cancers of various types and has watched as deadly viruses and bacteria spread like wild fire. He sits back watching as terrorists and thugs kill in mass his children but he does nothing. God just does not give a damn.

Okay, that bit was funny.

Thanks!
