What else is there to do in Louisiana, other than Mardi Gras?

If I am going to be here for a month (at a minimum), then I may as well find something else to do outside of my company-paid hotel room.

What else is there, since I just missed Mardi Gras? A little help for a wayward traveller please:confused:

The entire state of Louisiana or a specific location (assuming New Orleans)?

New Orleans has lots of great restaurants, lots of live music venues, several museums, etc.

Where ever you are, go to a local coffee shop or bar, strike up a conversation with a few locals and just ask them.
Most people are happy to show off the best parts of their community and point out the hidden gems are often overlooked.

Very good to point that out. I am particularly close to Baton Rouge, in a place called Gonzales.
So far, the locals really do seem genuinely friendly.

Louisiana, has an amazing culture. Take an airboat ride in the swamp. Go to Jazz Fest. It is truly the sportsman's paradise. hunting and fishing. So many different types of food. I love living here. Strawberry festival is coming up in March in Ponchatoula. I could go on and on.

I am not stopping you... please go on & on :p
I am up all night at work from dusk 'til dawn; what is the awesomeness that hides in plain sight and broad daylight?

Shame you aren't closer to nola. I am just over an hour from there and have made like a zillion trips there thru the years. Bourbon street is something to see if only for the sights and the people. Weekends are really busy and the side streets are extremely narrow and crowded so it's best to visit during the week. Pick a sunny day and enjoy the river walk. And the food........

I am staying in Gonzales. Isn't that close enough?
Trust me: everyone back where I came from has told me to go to Bourbon Street.
I just want the bourbon... keep the street :p

And back to business: where may I find an authentic Candy Skull keychain?

Not really sure where Gonzales is. I pretty much go straight from Gulfport to Nola on I - 10 and that's it. Stop in Slidell occasionally but once we get to downtown nola we park and walk and don't travel around much to other areas. If you are close I'd go. You've stumped me on the keychain but nola is like the beach in that there are a zillion stores down most of the streets that all have tee's and every other souvenir you can imagine. Voodoo stuff is a big novelty in a lot of the stores so I bet you can find a key chain like that.

I have heard that they party that way pretty much from Galveston Texas all the way over to Mobile for this.

Mobile is about 45 minutes the other direction from where I am and......well it's not really known around here for it's party atmosphere. Go about a half hour south of mobile and there are some really nice beaches. I go there a lot cause they have even nicer beaches than we do.

I can vouch for the beaches. From Gulf Shores east (especially Orange Beach) you'll find some great beaches.

All of what have read seems quite informative and useful, and I am very appreciative of all of these marvelous suggestions.

Don't go to any bars that are out in the middle of nowhere in Old Louis. Just saying. :)

what else

Food culture how its changed since the hurricanes. So much to do. Enjoy yourself.

Going to N.O. and NOT Pat O'Brien's for a Hurricane is BAD JUJU!

That sounds like exactly what I should do: drive from where I am to New Orleans, have a trio of beignets and a drink from Pat O'Brians

I have heard of e heinous rumor spreading through my job that I may be getting a Day Off!
Now I know I can go to Pat O' Brians and have that Hurricane... I don't have to rush to get back to work!
Hallelujah to the Bug Swarm! Thank you for the awesome suggestion!
But if I have an entire 36hrs off-duty, then I better make the most of it... sounds like it is time to crack open that pound bag of Wake the Fuck Up coffee to stay up and live it up!

What else is there?

You will be pleased to know that I did go to Pat o'Briens.
I am very pleased with them, and it was completely worth the 33$ I spent to make Cowboy's Cup o'Coffee

If where I am is in the middle of nowhere, and I go to a Logan's Roadhouse that is literally walking distance from my hotel, then I have failed.

But I returned safely. So it wasn't a bad thing. Bringing a fellow Import Officer probably helped with that.

Meth?

You are right. I could do Meth. It is an option. An option that is intoxicating and highly illegal, but an option nonetheless.

Instead, I shall blast Love & Meth by KoRn. That seems to be a reasonable compromise.

I am going back home tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for making Louisiana such a wonderful experience. I didn't get to meet as many Litsters face-to-face as I wanted, but that is all right.
If I owe you an apology, then I do sincerely apologize.

Louisiana does live up to "Southern Hospitality". I mean it!
