What do you look for in a bio?

Hi all,

I’m pretty new to the forums and the personals area. A scroll through it shows me that there are a lot of personal ads that don’t seem to receive replies (maybe they receive DMs, I don’t know). I guess this is mostly for women on the basis that most unanswered personals are from men, but anyone can answer:

What do you like to see in a bio? What makes you think “huh, that person’s interesting” and respond/message them?

Thanks in advance,
LW

If I was looking, it would someone who engages with the boards, as that gives an idea of likes/ dislikes and opinions. Bio doesn’t have to be pages long, but a bit of what you’re into/ looking for, age and location (time zone if nothing else) goes a long way. I hate getting messages without some sort of info to go on. (Also hate messages that are only one or two words/ sentences at best).
Just my experience, but hope it helps.

I will chat with most anyone that DMs me but if there’s no information on their bio I’m less likely to start a conversation with someone.

I don't think there is or should be one particular format for this - what people choose to put on also says something about them :)

That said, I like having a bit of the 'basics' (age, location, gender etc.) but also something more.. telling? Maybe something about preferences, likes/dislikes or reasons for being on Lit.

Personally, I use my bio to put some of the things I would otherwise repeat way too often. Doesn't really work though, since so few people read it

Yes!! The ones that actually say something about what they read in my bio are far more likely to get my attention.
Also asking me questions other than “want to chat?” Will get a response from me nearly every time.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply and for some helpful insights. I would like to meaningfully engage with people if I’m going to spend time on here, so crafting a bio that helps someone else see what I’m about is important.

And thanks too for the light-hearted replies, a sense of humour is always appreciated.
