Based on pink's Losing weight thread. I thought it would be good to have a discussion thread based around health and wellness. It can be a clearing house for information and suggestions, as well as a place to complain when you get sick.

Boilerplate disclaimer: Most people here aren't doctors. No one can diagnose you over the internet. Consult with a physician for medical issues.

I recently learned that I have Orthorexia nervosa and that I should start eating donuts to cure myself.

Here are the symptoms; if you have two or more it is advised that you seek medical help immediately.

•You consume a nutritionally unbalanced diet because of concerns about "food purity."

•You're preoccupied about how eating impure or unhealthy foods will affect your physical or emotional health.

•You rigidly avoid any food you deem to be "unhealthy," such as those containing fat, preservatives, additives or animal products.

•You spend three or more hours per day reading about, acquiring or preparing certain kinds of food you believe to be "pure."

•You feel guilty if you eat foods you believe to be "impure."

•You're intolerant of other's food beliefs.

•You spend an excessive proportion of your income on "pure" foods.

Some time busting ass up in the mountains..

..get up in elevation and grab a pick axe/shovel, clean spring water, fresh air and a variety of organic foods. Shit just the 1/4 mile hike 600 or so vertical feet up the mountain is enough to whip most cubical monkey's ass's alone.

But it will melt the fat off that ass like P90XXX  I gay-rone-tee mmmhmm yessir!! Be a PT monster in no time.

God damn I love PT......imma get me some today!!

Best piece of advice is to pick the right parents.

If Pink puts a bag of donuts on a device that goes around her mobile home like a rabbit at a dog track....she's got a chance at losing a few.

One actual piece of health advice you can do something about is to take good care of your teeth.

Agreed. Biological parents are key, and a mistake there can't always be undone.

Genetics took Byron away...

Yes, if you get dealt the right cards you can get away with murder, and if you get dealt the wrong ones there's not a lot you can do about it, unfortunately.

True, but even that is subject to genetics. You can make things worse by not taking care of them, but some people's teeth just crumble regardless.

Also gum disease, some people seem to get it even with excellent dental care.

Meth and smoking is bad for gums I am told.

You can't get away from your genetics, it's true. But a lot of people don't seem to realize how important taking as good care of their teeth as possible is to their overall health.

I read that article and it just clicked for me so hard - not because it applies to me because I'm far from a pure eater. But I've noticed this trend in so many people I know. People going gluten-free for no medical reason. A few weeks ago, a friend of a friend brought along her own food (a tupperware of veggies topped with a piece of steamed chicken) to eat at a restaurant because she doesn't "trust" food made by restaurants.

I got a waterrower about 3 years ago, I love it!

Of course Frank has the most expensive model. I have the two-toned one, bottom of the line. It works great!

Everything I've read on the internet says this exercise is a close second to running. I believe it, it only takes about 5 minutes for me to start sweating when I first get on it. It's much easier on the joints than running, and if you have big boobs like me, it's much easier on the puppies too. :p

If I could I would eat pizza everyday until I was sick of it, followed by chocolate eclairs, then chocolate chip ice cream and peanut butter on toast for breakfast.

I don't get why people voluntarily restrict themselves to that extreme. It also amazes me how many people wish to have positive attention for their diets, like it makes them virtuous somehow.

I eat before I go out so I won't be hungry just eating french fries or salad. I always check out menus before I go. At movie theaters, I can have snow caps, Swedish fish or junior mints.

Restaurants don't always get it, that is true, but if you call ahead before they are busy someone in the kitchen will usually tell you what you can have, or if you are lucky the chef will offer to make you something. I have had some amazing food that way.

There are places where I find there is absolutely nothing I can eat.
I am a very hard person to feed these days, but I try to make it minimally disruptive to everyone. The hardest places for me are the ones who have pre-mixed foods, usually I just don't go there.

I worry about nutrition a lot. I use online calculators to track that I am getting enough.

I would love to have one of those.

Yoga

Is about all that I can think of... Vegi-burgers?

I just need the weather to break and get back to bike riding for cardio....and I am also going to earnestly try some yoga but what sucks is there is no place drivable to go so I am going to try a video but I have never done well with those.

I eat very clean unless I go out to dinner in which case I eat whatever sounds tasty and isn't something I would cook at home.

I don't give much thought to gluten myself, but for a person fighting a weight issue eliminating wheat is a good idea because modern wheat (dwarf) contains a specific type of gluten peptide that was not present in the wheats humans have eaten for thousands of years. I am quite sure it is one ingredient that is a part of our obesity epidemic.

If I were the restaurant manager, I would have kicked that friend of a friend out of the restaurant. It all sounds very SoCal to me.
