A pet peeve of mine is inconsistencies I see in TV and film.

This morning, I'm watching the most recent episode of Hawaii 5-0 (fuck off, don't you laugh at me). In the beginning scenes a couple was trapped in their house by the killer, who placed a single board over the front door.

The couple was pulling on the door knob, trying to get out. Well, the door clearly opened to the inside. The board was clearly nailed to the exterior door trim. They should have just been able to open the door and walk out, ducking under the board.

I can't enjoy the rest of the show now!

Another irritation is when a firearm is clearly out of ammunition, with all working parts to the rear, yet the weapon is still "firing."

Like a dozen rounds from a six shooter, or an AK/AR firing many seconds after you know it's spent.

And that's just the obvious stuff.

There should be Hollywood jobs to check for shit like this before it's released.

Liam neesons daughter in taken 2 driving around Istanbul like a professional race car driver.

Had to turn it off after that scene.

Don't even get me started on the sound of a "silencer" from TV and film. Really? Really?

Really???

Too late.

And the belts of ammo they hauled up the side of the church tower in Saving Private Ryan. No primers. And the two different scopes.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I have a secret like of those cheesy movies. I haven't had a chance to watch the most recent one.

... but it didn't really get any better, so you missed nothing. They aren't great movies, but there's something about the first one and his "particular set of skills" that caught my attention.

Try hiding behind a car door in gun fight...most rounds will go thru like nothing...

It's called "continuity" and is an actual job in the tv/film industry.

There are oodles of fansites devoted to documenting such little errors.

Most of these people also suffer from OCD.

All fiction is based on a willing suspension of disbelief.
The bottom line is that it's all just entertainment.
The only questions you need ask is, "Was I entertained?" and "Was the entertainment value I received worth the price I paid?"

That's a good point.

It's like in the movie 'commando' Arnold shields himself from gunfire behind blades of grass and flowers. He sets off explosions and the victims are clearly cardboard cut outs in the background.

Yet it's entertaining from start to finish, despite being ridiculous it's fantastic.

Have you two ever had any fun in your life or do you just go around being literal cunts all of the time?

I mean that in a very kind, sweet and funny way.

Scott Cann is like 3'-6". He's the king of the low angle shot.

I usually don't let continuity problems bother me too much in watching a movie. Something that bothered me in a movie not long ago was that fake baby in American Sniper. I don't know why that bothered me as much as it did while watching the movie, but it did. If I were the director of that movie I would have used a real baby, no matter what. I know there are reasons for using a fake. I just wouldn't do it.

I agree with this 100%.

Although I don't go see movies with horses in them for the very reason that I rarely entertained because I'm too distracted by their handling/behavior, and it takes away the realism for me.

Wait, what about the fact that the sniper rifle being used in Kelly's Hero's is a Russian Mosin Nagaint 91/30? How the fuck did he ever get ammo for it? I didn't see no 440 round tin in his field pack. What did we run out of Springfield's 1903's or M1D's ?

California tried to force Clint Eastwood to use a cardboard paperdoll baby with mixed racial features but he put his foot down.

At least in Kelly's Hero's (we're talking about the Clint Eastwood movie, yes?), the German tanks really were German tanks, and not the usual Hollywood practice of using US, M60 Pattons with Nazi Reichweir insignia

Agreed!

We recently finished the Sons of Liberty miniseries (which was good).

The film made several mentions of "boycotting." Charles Boycott wasn't born until the 1830's.

They couldn't have been calling it "boycotting" in 1773.

Civil War Re-enactors make me crazy. My lil burg had one or two skirmishes with Union sailors sent to destroy salt collecting equipment (wash tubs) out at the beach. A few shots were fired by the sailors and the niggers hauled ass.

Today its a pageant with artillery and cavalry and sutlers and 100s of participants including 'Lincoln.'

Great Googly-Mooglies!

Are you a geek about military equipment too?

Um, I wouldn't say that. (Stop it, you're cramping my style! ;) )

I guess I know a good deal about the differences in military equipment and uniforms through an interest in my country and general history.

My husband is ex British Army. Americans have no idea that when they are watching news footage of "our troops," so much of the time they are British soldiers. Not that we shouldn't have admiration for all of those fighting for freedom.

Cool.
I'm a bit of a history geek myself.

Got to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo one year. It was pretty amazing.
