To clarify the reason for that. The rules apply to images that are uploaded to Lit. When the 2257 laws were enacted Lit decided that we were not going to start asking for your identity before posting pictures to ensure compliance.

Even though the laws were later struck down, Lit decided to continue restricting uploads. Especially as each state is still deciding what kinds of strange laws they might come up with for "obscenity" not to mention that we get a lot of International visitors whose countries have their own laws about this sort of thing.

The reason it's okay to post links here from sites like Dropbox is because they are the host site. Lit can not tell Dropbox what kinds of pictures to host, and the responsibility for those pictures are on Dropbox. By posting a link, no rule is being broken.

The rule covers attachments uploaded directly to Lit, or

2) Remote linking. These are images which are hosted on your server and displayed in your posts. As with attachments, they must always meet our guidelines. This means using the tags to place the picture directly in the post, but if you just put the link, it takes to you dropbox where you can see the picture. Make sense?
