Cooking right now: salami sandwiches for J, pre-hangover night snack. They got their bonuses today, the whole office apparently went a little nuts.

I promised to bring him breakfast in bed accompanied with live music played by moi on the recorder. Weirdly he turned it down.

And now I'll get to sleep, too.

Not cooking at all but going out to the breakfast buffet that serves pancakes with Nutella.
I'm blaming Seela for this.

Anyone got any pizza dough recipe recommendations?

My dough is okay for baking sheets, but it is just not stable enough to be pushed around with a peel, especially once you add the pizza sauce.

Just had homemade pizza, so I even have the recipe handy:

1/4 package yeast (12,5g)
3 dl water 37 degrees C
3 dl durum flour
3-4 dl normal wheat flour

You need to work it well and let it rise at least 1 hour. I usually start the dough in the morning before work if we are having pizza for dinner.
Roll it as thin as you can (it needs extra flour when you roll it or it will stick like crazy) and bake it for about 15 minutes in 200 degrees C.
I usually make the pizza on a baking sheet and transfer it to a hot tray. If you have a pizza stone it's probably even better.

Wasn't in the mood to cook a full Sunday roast today, so I cheated - tuna pasta bake, green salad and garlic bread.

<thread hijack> it surprises me that I love the smell of tuna pasta bake, but my stomach heaves if I try to eat it :(. It's the same with porridge - the smell is delicious but the taste.....bleurgh

Last night was sausage pasta with cheesy vodka sauce, and tonight we have leftovers! Huzzah! Going to add some red pepper slices to it to make it somewhat healthier.

Spinach and cheese pupusas for lunch.

I love pupusas!! Both sweet and savory. Haven't had them in ages :(

Question:
Has anyone ever cooked with roasted noodles? I got them in a Middle Eastern food market, and they are made from wheat flour, water, eggs and salt. I haven't decided what to do with them yet, and was wondering if anyone has experience with them?

Hash made from left over roasted veggies - potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, sweet peppers, beets and rutabaga, topped with eggs and finished under the broiler. Toast accompanied. Yum!

This is much too healthy. Where's your sense of adventure?

Pancakes and bacon here, you know, for Mardi Gras. Will finish the paczki tomorrow. :D

panko fried mahi fingers with an apricot ginger dipping sauce

Mmmmmm. .. that sounds lovely!!

And i save my pancakes and bacon for the weekends, MWY.
And potatoes, and spiked coffee, and brownies for dessert. .. and anything else I can dream up :D

Pancakes are a traditional Fat Tuesday dish in quite a few cultures. So it was a day of gluten-y gluttony. :D

Hi Respe! I actually have some ground chicken that I don't have solid plans for yet... This looks yummy. Do you have a link to a recipe? :)

You know what "they " say, put enough ketchup on anything and it's bound to taste better.

In that case, "they" should be shot!
I don't even own a bottle of ketchup...

Well I for one like ketchup with some things.

I often make my own, though, because I use so little of it that it makes no sense to buy a big bottle.

Cooking today: chickpea and cashew curry with naan.

I have never had homemade "regular" ketchup. Just flavored/spicy.
But there's really nothing I like it on...

Shrimp soup, cod fillet with celeriac and cauliflower pureé, bacon, mushroom, red onion and balsamic vinegar.
For dessert we had slices of wht essentially was a gigantic chocholate chip cookie with blueberries, raspberries and cream.
Way too much Cattaratto Grecanico to go with that.

Toast with cashew butter and Nutella, with apple slices, for a snack. My SO is cooking dinner tonight! I have no idea what he's going to make us but I'm hoping for something with chicken, rice and mushrooms.

That's rather specific for no idea what he is cooking :p
I hope you get your wish!

Side note for Lally. I moved this over from my Holiday thread because it's all about cooking Brussels Sprouts...

Some years back I found a recipe for them that involved a unique cooking method, from my perspective. I have only seen this the one time. I don't normally like them, but I tried this and liked it. You actually split and then core them, and then separate them into individual leaves. Yes, a bit of a hassle, but sautéed in butter or bacon and garlic /shallot, whatever you like, they are much milder than they are when prepared intact.

My thought was, you could use this method and invent a fancy name... Cruciferous Belgian Greens? that your family wouldn't easily decipher, and have your entire family eating them without knowing it! How sweet would that be? :D You would be the boss of that game forever... Nobody could top that!!

I actually made this today! It was quite tasty, and the brussels sprout flavor does seem to be much milder. Plus, I was able to sauté in duck fat. :D I actually like brussels sprouts cooked in their compact state though, so....

Okay. So, I admit I've been a little bored. Waiting for stitches to be removed, and not being able to exercise until that happens is so BORING.

Apparently bored leads to peeling brussels sprouts.

My secret lemon ice tea recipe:

1 qt water (boiling)
3 teaspoons black tea (I use Darjeeling, but it really depends on your taste. I also like Ceylon. Darjeeling is great, as it's popular, you also get easily organic quality.)
2.5 oz sugar

Let the tea brew for 2.5 to 3 minutes, not longer!
Throw in a shitload of ice cubes (30+). Cooling it down immediately is the important step!

Then add the juice of one lemon.

Cool down further as preferred.

This is good stuff. Sans sugar, of course! :p

Have you ever tried basil lemonade?
Oh man oh man oh man...

Glad you liked the Brussels Sprouts! :)
