I would just like to get a feel for it by talking to a few people who are in the life, get their feedback on anything and the like.
 
I have posted in personals also, though it seems as if 99% of the people messaging me wants to start off right away with the orders and dirty pictures. Is that pretty much normal Or is it just me that wants to get comfortable with the other person first before I submit or not?

It's normal for them and wise of you. Some think of those new as easy prey. You've got the right idea. Ask your questions here, check out the library at the top of this forum, read a few books on BDSM. You might also consider joining fetlife.com (kind of a Facebook for kinksters) where there might be information on munches near you. A munch is a meeting of like minded People interested in BDSM, often in a restaurant, to get together and talk. No playing, wear regular clothes.

For me, im very intrigued by the general relationship of Mistress/slave. But I'm not sure how this is compatible with my real live.

I think you'll find that continuing to post thoughtfully around the forum will give you a chance to interact with others who share your particular corner of kink. Doing so will afford you a chance to see how they treat others, how cleanly they think, and if they have a view of the world that meshes well with yours.
