I heard about this on the radio while driving home from work last night.

This exact thing happened to a friend of mine. She had multiple cats out in a rural area. Wild animals and cars took there toll sometimes.... one came home injured, it got sicker than suddenly seemed to die. Shortly there after her husband buried it.. A few days later it was back, still injured and dirty as heck.
Not only did the cat live another year, but he always cut a WIDE path around her husband.. the cat never forgot !

We had a calico cat hit by the mailman when I was a kid and its guts got squished out. It didn't kill it. It just kept on going like nothing happened, dragging about 24 inches of intestines behind it. I kinda felt sorry for it...it would come up to you, start purring and rub it's head on your leg. Finally, I grabbed it and stuffed it's guts back up inside it, didn't even wash them off, wrapped a rag around it's belly to keep them in.
Long story short, the rag finally fell of and the cat was fine. Cats are too stupid to realize they are dead, sometimes.

Many years ago I went out in the morning to go to work, Start up the truck only to hear a godawful screeching and thumping from under the hood. Checking it out I found the bloody messy remains of a cat around the fan and belts.. tossed the thing into the burn barrel and went to work a bit disgusted..came home that evening and found the thing alive.. took it to a vet and needed a broken leg set and several sets of stitches but wound up living many more years.. They really do seem to have nine lives.
